Cyprinus is the genus of typical carps in family Cyprinidae. Most species in the genus are of East Asia origin with only the common carp in Western Asia and Europe; this invasive species has also been introduced to many other regions around the world. Cyprinus are closely related to some more barb-like genera, such as Cyclocheilichthys and Barbonymus (tinfoils). The crucian carps (Carassius) of western Eurasia, which include the goldfish, are apparently not as closely related.
Pangio is a genus of small Asian freshwater fish in the true loach family Cobitidae. In earlier taxonomic schemes it was known as Acanthophthalmus. The "kuhli loach" is well-known in the aquarium trade and commonly identified as P. kuhlii, but most individuals actually appear to be P. semicincta.
Trigonostigma is a genus of small cyprinid fish found in Southeast Asia. These social, colorful freshwater fish are often kept in aquariums.

Phallostethus is a small genus of fishes in the family Phallostethidae native to freshwater and brackish habitats in southeast Asia.
Barilius is a large genus of cyprinid freshwater fishes native to Asia. Four species in this genus have been described since 2012, although three have since been reallocated to Opsarius, which was formerly a group within this genus before elevation to full genus.
Aphyocypris is a genus of freshwater ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Xenocyprididae. This genus has eight valid species, all of which are restricted to East Asia.
Mesogobio is a genus of cyprinid fish that is found in Eastern Asia. There are currently two described species.
Osteochilus is a genus of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Cyprinidae, the family which includes the carps, barbs, minnows and related fishes. The fishes in this genus are mainly found in Southeast Asia with a few extending into adjacent parts of China.
Semiplotus is a genus of cyprinid fishes found in south Asia.
Aphyocypris lini, the garnet minnow or Venus minnow, is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Xenocyprididae, the East Asian minnows or sharpbellies. This species is endemic to China. It was first collected from Hong Kong by A.W. Herre in 1936. The introduction of mosquitofish and habitat destruction caused the extirpation of this species from Hong Kong and the species was considered to be extinct in the wild. However, a similar species Aphyocypris pulchrilineata was discovered in Guangxi in southern China, but this species lacks the dark spot on the base of the caudal fin.
Ancherythroculter daovantieni is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Xenocyprididae, the East Asian minnows or sharpbellies, described in 1967. It is native to Vietnam.
