Arthurdendyus is a genus of land planarians from New Zealand.
Species of Arthurdendyus are characterized by a bell-shaped pharynx and ovaries placed laterally to the male copulatory apparatus, while most land planarians species have ovaries located much more anteriorly, usually close to the brain or to the pharynx. Other characteristic shared with closely related genera, such as Artioposthia and Newzealandia , is the presence of adenodactyls in the copulatory apparatus. [1]
The name Arthurdendyus honors the English zoologist Arthur Dendy who described many land planarians from Australia and New Zealand.
The genus Arthurdendyus includes the following species:
The New Zealand flatworm is a large land flatworm native to New Zealand. It can vary from 5 mm in length when hatched to approximately 17 centimetres (6.7 in) in mature adults.
Dugesiidae is a family of freshwater planarians distributed worldwide. The type genus is Dugesia Girard, 1850.
Arthur Dendy was an English zoologist known for his work on marine sponges and the terrestrial invertebrates of Victoria, Australia, notably including the "living fossil" Peripatus. He was in turn professor of zoology in New Zealand, in South Africa and finally at King's College London. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society.
The reproductive system of planarians is broadly similar among different families, although the associated structures can vary in complexity.
Caenoplanini is a tribe of land planarians in the subfamily Rhynchodeminae mostly found throughout the Australasian and Oceanian realms.
Caenoplana is a genus of land planarians from Australia and New Zealand.
Marionfyfea is a genus of land planarians from Antarctic Islands off New Zealand. However, a species has been described from specimens found in Europe, probably introduced.
Anzoplana is a genus of land planarians from Australia, currently comprising a single species, Anzoplana trilineata.
Australoplana also known as Australian flatworm is a genus of land planarians from Australia and New Zealand.
Kontikia is a genus of land planarians native from islands in the Indo-Pacific region, but several species have been introduced elsewhere.
Artioposthia is a genus of land planarians from the Australasian and Indo-Pacific countries. Several species have also been introduced in Europe.
Newzealandia is a genus of land planarians from the New Zealand.
Tasmanoplana is a genus of land planarians from Australia.
Reomkago is a genus of land planarians from Australia.
Fletchamia is a genus of land planarians from Australia.
Pelmatoplanini is a tribe of land planarians in the subfamily Rhynchodeminae.
Eudoxiatopoplana is a genus of land planarians from New Zealand, currently comprising a single species, Eudoxiatopoplana bilaticlavia, that occurs in Stewart Island. It is the sole genus of the subfamily Eudoxiatopoplaninae.
Australopacifica is a genus of land planarians of the tribe Caenoplanini. It was erected to include species lacking sufficient morphological information to allow them to be classified in the appropriate genus.
Anisorhynchodemus is a genus of land planarians of the tribe Rhynchodemini. It was erected to include species lacking sufficient morphological information to allow them to be classified in the appropriate genus.
Statomicroplana is a genus of land planarians of the subfamily Microplaninae. It was erected to include species lacking sufficient morphological information to allow them to be classified in the appropriate genus.
