The Association of Theologically Trained Women of India (ATTWI) is an association of Indian women theologians which was constituted in 1979 in Chennai.
It is an ecumenical organisation with more than 500 members. [1]
In 1977, Shanti Solomon and D. Hoeffer, a German missionary pioneered a conference for theologically trained women in Chennai with a three-fold purpose: [1]
Another conference was organised in 1978 in Chennai. In 1979, an ad hoc committee [1] was constituted to draft a constitution for forming an association. ATTWI became a reality in 1979.

Membership to ATTWI is presently restricted to those who hold a degree in theology offered by the Senate of Serampore College (University) or such other theological degrees recognised by the Senate. [1]

ATTWI is an inter-denominational organisation which strives to uplift women and girl child, deal with issues pertaining to women and girl child rights, have dialogue with the concerned organisations, and make representation on their behalf and by doing so help the society to develop a healthier community by creating awareness. [2]

Evangeline Anderson-Rajkumar is a feminist activist ecumenical theologian who taught at Serampore College, Serampore (1990-1994) the United Theological College, Bangalore, (1999-2014). Evangeline Anderson-Rajkumar was the first permanent woman faculty to serve as faculty in the Theology Department of the renowned Serampore College, founded by William Carey when he came to India in 1792. She was the first Lutheran Woman to serve as first Vice President of the United Evangelical Lutheran Churches in India in 2006. She comes from a family of theologians - about 17 of them, her father, all eight siblings, and seven of the eight who married into the family. Evangeline Anderson-Rajkumar served as the President of the Association of Theologically Trained Women of India (ATTWI) and is a sought after resource person on Body Theology.
Bishop Emeritus P. Surya Prakash was the fifth Bishop-in-Karimnagar Diocese of the Church of South India. from 2007 through 2014 and occupied the Cathedra in Karimnagar's Wesley Cathedral. He retired on account of superannuation in 2014 following which the Church of South India Synod headquartered in Chennai appointed a successor to him in 2015.
Elizabeth Paul was the first ordained woman in India. She was a sister of the CSI Order of Sisters in the Church of South India (CSI) who also taught at the United Theological College, Bengaluru.
George Soares-Prabhu was an Indian Jesuit priest, exegete and biblical scholar, particularly known for his work in Indian Hermeneutics of the Christian Scriptures.
Ravela Joseph was a Sapphire jubilee-Priest involved in Spiritual formation from the mid-1960s into the early 2000s in the Telugu states. He taught Systematic theology in Major Seminaries affiliated to the Senate of Serampore College (University), the nation's first modern University {a University under Section 2 (f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956} with degree-granting authority validated by a Danish Charter and ratified by the Government of West Bengal.
Roger E. Hedlund is an American pastor who has spent more than three decades in India as a theological teacher and researcher with major contributions to missiology with special reference to Indian ethos.
Rajula Annie Watson is a Theologian who presently teaches at the Karnataka Theological College, Mangalore, a Seminary established in 1965 and affiliated to the nation's first University, the Senate of Serampore College. Annie has been a member of the Association of Theologically Trained Women of India since 1991 as well as Associate Presbyter at CSI-Hebich Memorial Church, Mangalore.
Navamani Elia Peter is a Deaconess, espousing women's leadership in the Church, focusing on Ordination of women in Christianity. She was in the forefront of the movement for gender equality since the Eighties. Navamani held key positions of leadership globally. She was at the helm of leadership in multifaced Church-based organisations, notably the National Council of Churches in India, World Methodist Council, World Day of Prayer International Committee and Christian Conference of Asia.
Chetti Bhanumurti was a Hymn Writer whose hymns are found in the Hymnal in Telugu. Bhanumurti was a Pastor of the Canadian Baptist Mission/Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars who also led the Principalship of the Baptist Theological Seminary, Kakinada from 1945-1956 leading to its affiliation to the nation's first University, Senate of Serampore College (University) in 1946
B. V. Subbamma also known as Bathineni Venkata Subbamma was an Indian theologian and scholar. Noted for founding Christian ashrams, she was widely recognized for her analysis of Christianity from a cultural perspective. She was one of the first women in India to attain theological training and was one of the inaugural women pastors ordained by the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church (AELC) in 1999 at AELC-St. Matthews West Parish, Guntur.
Marathakavalli David(1950-2011) was the first woman Priest in Kerala hailing from the South Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India who was ordained in 1989.
P. Kambar Manickam is a Priest of the Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church and current Asia Pacific representative of the International Council on Pastoral Care and Counselling.

Graham Basanti a.k.a. M. G. Basanti is a silver jubilee woman priest and the first ordinand from the Protestant Jeypore Evangelical Lutheran Church Society (JELC), headquartered in Jeypore, Odisha, India. She was in the forefront of JELC leadership, representing it at United Evangelical Lutheran Churches in India in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Basanti has been a founding member of the Association of Theologically Trained Women of India (ATTWI), and was also elected to its executive committee for the bienniums 1979–1981 and 2002–2006. Basanti has also been associated with the National Council of Churches in India.
Arnolis (Arnold) Alexander Weerasooriya was the first Ceylonese Colonel of the Salvation Army, also serving as Second in Command of the Indian sub-continent 1887–1888. He was a member of the Weerasooriya family of Dodanduwa and Hikkaduwa, and he is understood to be the first Sinhalese member of the Salvation Army.
