Gombe State (Fula:Lesdi Gommbe 𞤤𞤫𞤴𞤣𞤭𞤺𞤮𞤥𞥆𞤦𞤫; is a state in northeastern Nigeria,bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Borno for 93 km in the vicinity of Gongola River and Lake Dadin Kowa and Yobe in the vicinity of Gongola River for 140 km,to the south by Taraba State for 58 km,to the southeast by Adamawa State for 95 km,and to the west by Bauchi State for 277 km. Gombe is the state capital of Gombe state and it was formed from a part of Bauchi State on 1 October 1996. Of the 36 states in Nigeria,Gombe is the 21st largest in area and the 32nd most populous,with an estimated population of about 3.25 million as of 2016. The state bears a slogan "Jewel in the Savannah".
Yobe is a state located in northeastern Nigeria. A mainly agricultural state,it was created on 27 August 1991. Yobe State was carved out of Borno State. The capital of Yobe State is Damaturu,and its largest city by population is Potiskum. While by the largest by land area is Fune,Potiskum Local Government Area is a place of Farmers and marketers,the largest cattle market in Africa is located in Potiskum.
Ibrahim Idris is a Nigeria politician and businessman who served as governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2011. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Idris was succeeded by his brother-in-law Captain Idris Wada,who won election in December 2011 and took office in January 2012.

It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The state university has a Chancellor and 11-members of the governing council,as well as principal officers and management staff. Abdullahi Mahadi was the first vice chancellor of the university.
The Gombe State House of Assembly is the legislative arm of the government of Gombe State of Nigeria. It is a unicameral legislature with 24 members elected from the 11 local government areas of the state delineated into 24 state constituencies. Local government areas with considerably larger populations are delineated into two constituencies to give equal representation. This makes the number of legislators in the Gombe State House of Assembly 24.

Incumbent PDP Governor Bala Mohammed initially declined to run for re-election,instead running for president. However,after losing the PDP presidential primary in May 2022,Mohammed was renominated in a rerun primary. Mohammed was re-elected as governor by a 9% margin over first runner-up and APC nominee —former Chief of the Air Staff Sadique Abubakar.

The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
The 2007 Nigerian Senate election in Gombe State was held on April 21,2007,to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Gombe State. Kawu Peto Dukku representing Gombe North,Tawar Umbi Wada representing Gombe South and Audu Idris Umar representing Gombe Central all won on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The 1999 Nigerian Senate election in Gombe State was held on February 20,1999,to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Gombe State. Saidu Kumo representing Gombe Central won on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party,while Umar Usman Dukku representing Gombe North and Idris Abubakar representing Gombe South won on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party.

Other federal elections,including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate,will also be held on the same date while state elections will be held two weeks afterward on 11 March.
