Umaru Tafidan Argungu (born 1 May 1959) was elected Senator for Kebbi North constituency of Kebbi State,Nigeria,taking office on 29 May 2007. He is a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). [1]
Argungu obtained an M.Sc in Transport Studies. Before election to the Senate,he was General Manager,Special Duties,Nigerian Ports Authority and a Company Chairman. After election,he was appointed to committees on Sports,Public Accounts,Privatization,Marine Transport,Environment,Communications and Air Force. [1]
The Argungu Fishing Festival or Argungu Dance Festivalis an annual four-day festival in the states of Kebbi,and other northern states like Niger in the north-western part of Northern Nigeria. The region is made up of fertile river areas of (matanfada,mala with much irrigation and orchards. The majority of fishermen are followers of Islam and also predominantly farmers. Kanta Museum is the main historical centre in Argungu for visitors across the globe. People from around the world travel to Argungu just to witness the occasion. The main purpose of the Argungu fishing festival is for fishing and unity. The festival usually takes 4-days of cultural event
