Bangladesh Fencing Association is the national governing body of Fencing in Bangladesh. [1] It is affiliated with the Bangladesh Olympic Association and the International Fencing Federation. [2] [3]

History

Bangladesh Fencing Association was established in 2007. [4] The president was Lieutenant General ATM Zahirul Alam and the general secretary was Major Qamrul Islam. [5] The first participants were from Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party Club. [5] [6]

President of the association, A.T.M. Zahirul Alam led the 23 member delegation of Bangladesh to the Rio Olympics in 2016. [7]

In September 2017, Shoeb Chowdhury was appointed President of Bangladesh Fencing Association; he was serving as the vice-president of the association. [8] Sheob is the chairman of Daily Asian Age and a director of Special Olympics Bangladesh. [9]

National Sports Council made an ad-hoc committee for the Bangladesh Fencing Association with 27 members on 12 August 2021. [4] Shoeb Chowdhury was the president and Selim Omrao Khan was the general secretary of the association. [10] They met the State Minister for Youth and Sports, Zahid Ahsan Russell, to inform him about the activities of the Bangladesh Fencing Association. [11]

In March 2022, the Bangladesh Fencing Association held the 4th Bangabandhu Independence Cup Fencing Competition at Shaheed Sohrawardi Indoor Stadium which was won by a team from Bangladesh Navy. [12] It held the Bangabandhu 7th President Cup Fencing Championship in November. [13]

In March 2023, the Bangladesh Fencing Association held the 5th Sheikh Kamal National Fencing Competition at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium at Mirpur. [14] [15]

It is located in the Motijheel area in the heart of the city. It is the home venue for both the men's and women's national football teams.

The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, also called Mirpur Stadium, is an International cricket ground in Mirpur, a few kilometres from the capital of Bangladesh. Located 10 kilometres from Mirpur city centre, the ground holds approximately 25,000 people and is named after the Bengali statesman A. K. Fazlul Huq, who was accorded the title Sher-e-Bangla.

Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation's (BKF) president Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and General secretary Habibur Rahman is maintaining the National kabaddi team.

Chittagong Abahani Limited, also spelled as Chattogram Abahani or Chittagong Abahoni, is a sports club based in Chittagong, Bangladesh. A wing of Abahani Limited was established at Chittagong in 1980 known as Chittagong Abahani. Though it was established as a wing of Abahani Limited, Chittagong Abahani has its own directorial board, club structure and operates separately at present. It is considered as the most successful football club from Chittagong. It is currently a team of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the top tier of Bangladeshi football.

AbuTayeb Muhammad Zahirul Alam, rcds, psc, is a retired lieutenant general of Bangladesh Army. He served as Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). He was the first officer in Bangladesh army to achieve such high post in the UN Peacekeeping Mission.Previously he was the commandant of the National Defence College, Bangladesh. He is serving as a chairman of Hamdard Public College's governing body.

National Sports Awards are given by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Government of Bangladesh for specific contributions in the field of games and sports. The award was introduced in 1976. As of 2011, total 175 sports personalities won the award.

Sheikh Rehana Siddiq is a Bangladesh Awami League politician. She is the younger sister of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The 2018 Federation Cup also known as the Walton Federation Cup 2018 due to the sponsorship from Walton Group was the 30th edition of the tournament. Thirteeen teams completed. Dhaka Abahani was the winner of previous edition of the tournament. The winner earned a slot in the group stage of the 2019 AFC Cup.

The 2018 Independence Cup, also known as Walton Independence Cup 2018 or Walton Independence Cup Football Tournament 2018 due to the sponsorship from Walton Group, was the 10th edition of the Independence Cup, the main domestic annual club football tournament organized by Bangladesh Football Federation. Thirteen participants competed in the tournament.

The 2019–20 Federation Cup, also known as TVS Federation Cup 2019, was 31st edition of the tournament, the main domestic annual club football competition in Bangladesh organized by Bangladesh Football Federation. The 13 participants will compete for the tournament. The winner of the tournament will earn the slot of playing preliminary round of 2021 AFC Cup.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dhaka Wanderers Club</span> Bangladeshi association football club

Dhaka Wanderers Club is a football team from Dhaka, Bangladesh. They are one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Bangladesh. The Wanderers dominated the domestic scene during the 1950s and 60s, and were considered to be the one of the biggest clubs in the subcontinent before Bangladesh gained independence. Wanderers have seven domestic league titles and were also the runners-up of the Federation Cup in 1987, losing to Mohammedan SC in the finals. Their rivalry with Mohammedan is seen as the first domestic club rivalry in Bangladeshi football history.

Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque is a judge on the High Court Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court.
