Border Security Force Sporting Club is an Indian multi-sports club best known for its football team. The club is based in Jalandhar, Punjab, and currently competing in the Punjab State Super Football League. [2] [3] [4] They are one of the dominating teams in Independence Day Cup of Assam and Durand Cup. [5]

History

The team is well known for winning the prestigious Durand Cup on seven occasions during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. [7] Legendary player Sukhwinder Singh represented the club from 1974 to 1978. [8]

The team also spent one season in the old National Football League during the 1999–2000 season. They were relegated after finishing in 11th place. [9]

Rivalries

As one of the renowned clubs from the state of Punjab, Border Security Force nurtured rivalries with numerous local sides including Leaders Club, Punjab Police, JCT Mills, in the state leagues. [10] [11] [12] [13]

Border Security Force has a field hockey team [37] that participated in Beighton Cup, one of the oldest field hockey tournaments in the world. [38] [39] They also appeared in Bombay Gold Cup. [40]

Neville Steven Joseph D'Souza was an Indian footballer who played as a striker. During the "golden era of Indian football" under legendary coach Syed Abdul Rahim, he was recognised one of the finest strikers of India national team having perfect eye for goal. He appeared in the 1956 Summer Olympics, and finished the campaign as joint top scorer of the tournament with four goals, inducing a hat-trick in the quarterfinals against the hosts Australia.

Inder Singh is an Indian former football player and captain, manager and administrator. He played for Leaders Club of Jalandhar, JCT Mills, and the India national team, predominantly as a forward. He began his senior professional career with Leaders Club in 1962 and moved to JCT Mills in 1974. Playing for Punjab in the Santosh Trophy, he finished the 1974–75 tournament with 23 goals, a record that still stands. He was included in the AFC Asian All Stars team in 1968. He retired as a player in 1985.

Sukhwinder Singh is an Indian football manager and a former international footballer. He was the manager of the Cuttack based Indian Women's League side, Rising Students for the 2013–14 season and was also the coach of the India U-23 side and formerly of the Pailan Arrows of the I-League.

Eastern Railway Football Club is an Indian institutional multi-sports club based in Kolkata, West Bengal. The club was incorporated in 1882. Its widely known football team has mostly competed in CFL Premier Division B.
