Brunei Darussalam participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. [2] The contingent comprises 15 athletes and 16 officials led by Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim as the Chef de Mission. Brunei wushu star Basma Lachkar was given the honor to be the country’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony. [1]

The 1999 SEA Games, officially known as the 20th SEA Games and commonly known as Brunei Darussalam 1999, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. This was the first time Brunei hosted the Southeast Asian Games and also in Borneo island. These were the last to have ever staged during the 20th century, and this was the only occasion, to date, that Brunei had held the SEA Games.
Sport in Brunei covers the variety of sports that are played, from amateur to professional levels, across the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam, in addition to individuals and teams who are sent to compete in tournaments both home and abroad. Association football is the most popular sport played in Brunei. Several sports, along with leisure activities are also partaken in Brunei; from badminton and swimming to horseback riding, mountain biking, and paintball.
The 2013 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 27th Southeast Asian Games, or the 27th SEA Games, and commonly known as Naypyitaw 2013, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event took place in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from 11 to 22 December 2013, Around 4730 athletes from 11 participating nations competed at the games, which featured 460 events in 34 sports. The games were held from 11 to 22 December 2013.

He represented his nation Brunei in the men's 100 metres at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ismail also boasted a national record of 10.59 seconds, which he registered at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

During the Parade of Nations at the 2018 Asian Games opening ceremony, beginning at 19:00 WIB (UTC+7) on 18 August 2018, athletes bearing the flags of their respective nations led their national delegations as they paraded into the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in the co-host city of Jakarta, Indonesia, preceded by their flag and placard bearer. Each flag bearer had been chosen either by the nation's National Olympic Committee or by the athletes themselves. In keeping with tradition, the host nation, Indonesia entered last. 44 teams marched in.

Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah is a polo player and princess of Brunei. She is the eighth child of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei by his former second wife, Puan Hajah Mariam.
