Asian Games appearances (overview)

Singapore participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. It was Singapore's 18th appearance at the Asian Games, having competed at every Games since 1951, and claimed 8 gold, 7 silver, and 12 bronze medals at the 2006 Doha, as their best achievement this far. At the last edition of 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, the country won five gold, 6 silver, and 13 bronze medals. [1]

Contents

Singapore sent 265 athletes across 21 sports to compete in Jakarta and Palembang. Former Singaporean shooter Lee Wung Yew assigned as chef de mission for the contingent. At the opening ceremony parade, gymnast Hoe Wah Toon was unveiled as the flag bearer. The country made its debut in four sports, include contract bridge, artistic swimming, ju-jitsu and paragliding. Media coverage

Singaporean public broadcasting conglomerate Mediacorp held the broadcast rights of the 2018 Asian Games in the country. It broadcast the games through seven live channels on digital video on demand service Toggle (now meWATCH) including oktoSports. [3] [4]

National Sports Associations (NSA) has nominate 9 archers (5 men's and 4 women's) that will compete at the Games. The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) will decide athletes who will compete. [5]

2011 Southeast Asian Games 26th Southeast Asian Games

The 2011 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 26th Southeast Asian Games, and commonly known as Jakarta-Palembang 2011, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held from 11 to 22 November 2011 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. It was Indonesia's fourth time to host the Southeast Asian Games, and its first since 1997. Previously, Indonesia also hosted in 1979 and 1987. The capital city of Jakarta hosted all three of the previous Games prior to this. Palembang became the third SEA Games non-capital host city, after Chiang Mai (1995) and Nakhon Ratchasima (2007), both in Thailand. Around 5,965 athletes from 11 participating nations participated at the games which featured 545 events in 44 sports. The biggest competitor, sports, and events in Southeast Asian Games history.

Singapore at the Olympics Sporting event delegation

Singapore has sent athletes to most Summer Olympics held since 1948, when it was established as a separate British Crown Colony from the Straits Settlements just over three months before the commencement of the 1948 Summer Olympics. It continued to send a team to the Games until 1964 when Singapore was part of Malaysia, which sent a combined team. Upon Singapore's full independence from Malaysia in 1965, the country continued to participate in all subsequent editions of the Summer Olympics except in 1980 when the country participated in a large Olympic boycott. Singapore made their Winter Olympics debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics, with speed skater, Cheyenne Goh, competing in the short track speed skating event. Ethnic Chinese from Singapore had also competed for China at the Olympics as part of their football team, namely Chua Boon Lay in 1936, and Chia Boon Leong and Chu Chee Seng in 1948.

Hong Kong competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Hong Kong made its debut at the Asian Games in 1954 Manila, and the best achievement for the territory was in 2010 Asian Games held in neighboring Guangzhou, finishing with 8 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals totaling 40 medals. At the previous edition in held 4 years later in Incheon, the total number of medals increased to 42, but the number of gold medals fell to 6, In Indonesia the performance of local athletes was satisfactory, improving the results obtained in 2010 and 2014 with 46 medals achieving the best results at the games.

In 2018 edition, Malaysia was represented by 447 athletes and 140 officials at the Games. Abdul Azim Mohamad Zabidi, the Appeals Committee chairman of the Olympic Council of Malaysia was the chief of the delegation.
