Asian Games appearances (overview)

Cambodia competed in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. [1] This event marks the 12th Asian Games appearance for Cambodia since making their debut in 1954. [2]

Gymnastics

Cambodia represented by Choeun Sokden who participate in the men's vault event, but he did not start the competition. [10]

Jet Ski

Cambodian jetskier, Saly Ou Moeut, took home the gold medal in the ski modified event of the 2018 Asian Games at Ancol, North Jakarta, on 25 August. Ou Moeut also won another bronze medal in the Runabout 1100 stock. Ou Moeut became the first male athlete of Cambodian who won gold medal since debut in Asian Games in 1954. [11]

His teammate, Mustan, failed to win any medal because of engine problem during Moto 1. But he still performed well in other rounds.

Ju-jitsu

Cambodian athlete Jessa Khan won the gold medal in the women's ju-jitsu newaza 49 kg at the 2018 Asian Games after beating United Arab Emirates athlete Mahra Alhinaai by submission at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on 24 August. [12]

The Games of the New Emerging Forces (GANEFO) were the games set up by Indonesia as a counter to the Olympic Games. Cambodia participated in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea from 19 September to 4 October 2014. The country won its first-ever Asian Games gold medal courtesy of Sorn Seavmey in women's taekwondo middleweight class. Seavmey also was her country's only medalist in the competition.

Sorn Seavmey is a Cambodian taekwondo practitioner and gold medalist in the women’s under-73 kg event at 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. She was also a 2013 SEA Games gold medalist in Myanmar and the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia. In 2014, she won Cambodia's first gold medal at the Asian Games since its participation in 1954. At the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, Seavmey defeated her first-round opponent from Uzbekistan 29-7, then defeated her Filipino opponent in the semi-final 6-5. In the final round, she defeated her opponent from Iran 7-4, becoming the first Cambodian to win an Asian Games medal. She is 183 cm and trains with her brother Sorn Elit and sister Sorn Davin, who also practice taekwondo.

The country surpassed its target of winning 3 gold medals at the Games by concluding the competition with 5 gold medals, 15 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals, ranking 16th out of 46 participating members of the Olympic Council of Asia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2018 Asian Games Parade of Nations</span>

During the Parade of Nations at the 2018 Asian Games opening ceremony, beginning at 19:00 WIB (UTC+7) on 18 August 2018, athletes bearing the flags of their respective nations led their national delegations as they paraded into the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in the co-host city of Jakarta, Indonesia, preceded by their flag and placard bearer. Each flag bearer had been chosen either by the nation's National Olympic Committee or by the athletes themselves. In keeping with tradition, the host nation, Indonesia entered last. 44 teams marched in.

The 2018 Asian Games, officially known as the XVIII Asiad, is the largest sporting event in Asia governed by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It was held at Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia between 18 August – 2 September 2018, with 465 events in 40 sports and disciplines featured in the Games. This resulted in 465 medal sets being distributed.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Uzbekistan at the 2020 Summer Olympics</span> Sporting event delegation

Uzbekistan competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the nation's seventh consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics in the post-Soviet era.

Saly Ou Moeut is a Cambodian male jet skier. He represented Cambodia at the 2018 Asian Games, which was also his first Asian Games event.
