Tajikistan participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. [2] This event marks as the seventh appearance for Tajikistan since 1994 Hiroshima Games. [3] The best achievement by medals was in 2006 Doha by collecting 2 gold and 2 bronze medals. At the last edition in Incheon, Tajikistan captured a gold, a silver, and 3 bronze medals, made the country standing in 23rd position, as their best ranking since the first occasion. [2] [4]
Tajikistan sent more than 80 athletes competing in 16 sporting events at this Games. Wrestler Rustam Iskandari assigned as a flag bearer at the opening ceremony parade.[ citation needed ]

Sherali Khayrulloyevich Khayrulloyev is a retired Tajikistani general and politician. He was the Minister of Defense of Tajikistan from 1995 to 2013.
The National Guard, formerly called the Brigade of Special Mission and Presidential Guard, is the National Guard service branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan, under direct command of the President of Tajikistan. Their primary task is ensuring public safety and security, which is similar to the tasks of the Tajik Internal Troops. The National Guard also takes part in ceremonial duties in Tajikistan.
The Ministry of Defence of Tajikistan is the defence ministry of Tajikistan, overseeing the Tajik Ground Forces, Air Force, Mobile Forces. It also oversees purchases of equipment for the Tajik military. The other branches of the military, such as the Border and Internal Troops, are overseen by the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan. The Defence Ministry was founded in 1993 with Russian assistance.
Tajikistan competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's sixth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics in the post-Soviet era.
Tajikistan competed at the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo and Obihiro, Japan from February 19 to 26. The country's athletes competed in one sport: alpine skiing. The team consisted of four athletes.
The Superjomi Tojikiston, or Tajik Super Cup, is a one-match football annual competition. The two participating clubs are holders of the Tajik League champions title and the Tajik Cup. If the Tajik League championship and the Tajik Cup are won by the same team, then the other participant is the runner-up of Tajik League. The match is played at the beginning of the season, typically in March.
Colonel General Sherali Mirzo is a Tajik Colonel General who serves as the Minister of Defence since 20 November 2013, succeeding Sherali Khayrulloyev.
