Hypnaceae is a large family of moss with broad worldwide occurrence in the class Bryopsida, subclass Bryidae and order Hypnales. Genera include Hypnum, Phyllodon, and Taxiphyllum.
Coniferous swamps are forested wetlands in which the dominant trees are lowland conifers such as northern white cedar. The soil in these swamp areas is typically saturated for most of the growing season and is occasionally inundated by seasonal storms or by winter snow melt.
Callicladium imponens, also known as brocade moss, is a species of moss native to North America. It is usually golden to yellow-green coloured, sometimes brownish. Its stems are medium to large sized usually reaching 3–10 cm. Unlike some other moss species, C. imponens lacks a hyalodermis but possesses a weak central strand.
