Carrington School is a coeducational secondary school located in Redhill, Surrey, England. [3]

Contents

Initially known as The Warwick School, it was founded in September 1984 through a merger of Albury Manor and Redstone Schools. Previously a community school administered by Surrey County Council, in January 2017 it converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the South East Surrey Schools Education Trust. In September 2021, the school changed its name to Carrington School. [4]

History

Albury Manor School opened in Merstham in September 1953 with 200 pupils, serving a new London County Council estate. [5] [6] Redstone School opened in September 1963 with 470 boys [7] and A level courses were first offered starting in 1967. [8] In September 1984, the two schools were merged to create Warwick School, [9] based at the former Redstone School site in Noke Drive, Redhill. From the outset, the new school educated pupils aged 12 to 16. [10] The school first admitted 11-year-olds in September 1993. [11]

As part of a £15M transforation project, which included the construction of a new teaching block, the school was renamed to Carrington School in September 2021. The new name was chosen in honour of the astronomer, Richard Carrington, who built an observatory on Furze Hill in 1852. [4] [12]

Headteacher

Kerry Oakley has been the Headteacher since 2018.

Prior to this, Ms Oakley was the Headteacher at St Andrew's High School in Croydon where she used the name Mrs Kerry Targett. During this time she was involved in several controversies including inappropriate use of the school credit card [13] and one of her school trips making national headlines. [14] St Andrew's was subsequently judged by OFSTED to be inadequate prior to its closure. [15]

The Surrey Iron Railway (SIR) was a horse-drawn plateway that linked Wandsworth and Croydon via Mitcham, all then in Surrey but now suburbs of south London, in England. It was established by Act of Parliament in 1801, and opened partly in 1802 and partly in 1803. It was a toll railway on which carriers used horse traction. The chief goods transported were coal, building materials, lime, manure, corn and seeds. The first 8.25 miles (13.28 km) to Croydon opened on 26 July 1803, with a branch line off from Mitcham to Hackbridge.

de Stafford School is a mixed secondary school located in Caterham, Surrey, England. The school educates students from ages 11 to 16.

Fullbrook School is a secondary school and sixth form in north west Surrey, England. The school has held Specialist Science, Technology, Mathematics and Computing College status since 2002. The school gained Grant Maintained status in the mid-1990s and was then given foundation status in 1999. In 2011, the school became an academy. Its main catchment areas are Byfleet, West Byfleet and New Haw with some pupils coming from Addlestone, Woking, Goldsworth Park and Sheerwater. The school has around 1550 students and there are about 250 students in the school's Sixth Form. In January 2017, Mrs. A Turner retired as head of Fullbrook School, and was succeeded by Mrs. K Moore. St Andrew's Church of England High School was a Church of England voluntary aided school in Central Croydon, Greater London. First opened in 1862, The school was part of the educational provision of the Diocese of Southwark and later, the London Borough of Croydon. It closed in 2020.

Reigate was a hundred in what is now Surrey, England. It was geographically consonant with the southern two thirds of Borough of Reigate and Banstead together with two parishes in Tandridge and fractions of former parishes in the London Borough of Croydon and Borough of Crawley, West Sussex.
