Alternatively, the founder of the family could have had a nickname related to his work as a manufacturer or a seller of pans (in Italian, casseruola), or a bricklayer and be named for the cazzuola or cazzola (trowel).

Gian Galeazzo Visconti, was the first duke of Milan (1395) and ruled the late-medieval city just before the dawn of the Renaissance. He also ruled Lombardy jointly with his uncle Bernabò.
