According to the 1941 census, there were many Bhangis (Churas) in Gujarat spread all over the State. They are the second largest untouchable caste of Gujarat. Accor-ding to their own story they are the descendents of a Brahman sage who carried away the buried dog that died in the midst of a Brahman assembly.
