Chigger Hill is an unincorporated community in DeKalb County, Alabama, United States.

History

Chigger Hill was named from the fact the original settlers had to combat a serious infestation of mites. [2] It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names. [3]

Joseph Lister Hill was an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he represented Alabama in the U.S. Congress for more than forty-five years, as both a U.S. Representative (1923–1938) and a U.S. Senator (1938–1969). During his Senate career he was active on health-related issues, and served as Senate Majority Whip (1941–47), and Hill also served as the Chair of the Senate Labor Committee. At the time of his retirement, Hill was the fourth-most senior Senator. Hill was succeeded by fellow Democrat James Allen.

Intercourse is an unincorporated community located at a crossroads in Sumter County, Alabama, United States. A post office called Intercourse was established in 1840, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1913. It is named for the traffic intersection of the town's crossroads. Although a share of the residents want the unusual name changed to Siloam, state maps still identify the place as Intercourse.
