Coles Local is a subsidiary of Coles Supermarkets in Australia, founded in November 2018 in Surrey Hills, Victoria as a way of expanding into the popular small format store market. [1]

It has stores with less range and alternative pricing scheme to that of larger Coles stores, but with an expanded offering of premium gourmet goods, and design elements tailored to the more affluent communities, with public relations efforts such as a mural drawn by a local artist. [2]

It has since expanded to twenty-one sites in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland [3] and Western Australia. [4] This includes the Balwyn North store, which opened in 1960 and was the site of the first Coles supermarket in Australia (but not the first Coles store, which opened in Collingwood in April 1914). [5] The most recent site launched as on Clarendon st in South Melbourne. [6]
