He is best known for flying indoor kites reaching the top 12 finalists of the fifth season of America's Got Talent. [1] As an epilepsy advocate, he stated "I used to live in fear of my epilepsy, but when I'm flying my kite, I don't even think about it. I hope my experience helps others build confidence too." [2] He continues to schedule and participate in kite flying performances bringing messages about epilepsy awareness, management, and the Epilepsy Foundation. [3]
Doran was eliminated in the Las Vegas round of the competition, but then was brought back by competition judge Howie Mandel as a wild card selection. He made it to the top 24 quarterfinals, and was subsequently eliminated.

A kite is a tethered heavier-than-air or lighter-than-air craft with wing surfaces that react against the air to create lift and drag forces. A kite consists of wings, tethers and anchors. Kites often have a bridle and tail to guide the face of the kite so the wind can lift it. Some kite designs don’t need a bridle; box kites can have a single attachment point. A kite may have fixed or moving anchors that can balance the kite. One technical definition is that a kite is “a collection of tether-coupled wing sets“. The name derives from its resemblance to a hovering bird.

Indoor kites are kites designed to fly in a windless environment. While principally designed for indoor use, they can also be flown outdoors when insufficient wind would render conventional kite-flying impossible. They are flown by using the relative wind provided by the motion of the kite-flier. This motion is typically generated by the user walking slowly backwards, but it can also be achieved with suitable pulls and jerks along the kite lines.
