The Orthoptera Species File [2] lists:
The subfamily Catantopinae is a group of insects classified under family Acrididae. Genera such as Macrotona may sometimes called "spur-throated grasshoppers", but that name is also used for grasshoppers from other subfamilies, including the genus Melanoplus from the Melanoplinae.
Bandwings, or band-winged grasshoppers, are the subfamily Oedipodinae of grasshoppers classified under the family Acrididae. They have a worldwide distribution and were originally elevated to full family status as the Oedipodidae. Many species primarily inhabit xeric weedy fields, and some are considered to be important locusts:
Chorthippus is a large genus of acridid grasshoppers with around 230 described species. The genus may be subdivided into subgenera including: Altichorthippus, Chorthippus and Glyptobothrus, with other species not placed.
The Tettigoniinae are a subfamily of bush crickets or katydids, which contains hundreds of species in about twelve tribes.
Stenobothrus is a genus of grasshoppers found in Asia, Europe, and North Africa.
Gomphocerinae, sometimes called "slant-faced grasshoppers", are a subfamily of grasshoppers found on every continent but Antarctica and Australia.
Platycleis is a genus of bush crickets described by Fieber in 1853, belonging to the subfamily Tettigoniinae. The species of this genus are present in Europe, North Africa and temperate Asia.
Ectobius is a genus of non-cosmopolitan cockroaches once thought native to the Old World and described by Stephens in 1835, belonging to the family Ectobiidae, subfamily Ectobiinae. The discovery of 4 ectobius cockroaches in Colorado dating to 49 Million years ago suggests the genus actually originated in North America. This genus has been subject to a number of revisions.
Dericorythidae are a family of grasshoppers, in the Orthoptera: suborder Caelifera. Species in this family can be found in northern Africa, southern Europe and Asia.
Podismini is a tribe of "spur-throated grasshoppers" in the family Acrididae. This tribe is unlike others in the subfamily Melanoplinae in that genera are found throughout the northern hemisphere, with a substantial number occurring outside the Americas.
Sphingonotus is a genus of grasshoppers in the family Acrididae, subfamily Oedipodinae, found in Europe Africa, Asia and Australia.
The Egnatiinae are a subfamily of grasshoppers in the family Acrididae, found in central and South America, and based on the monotypic type genus Egnatius and erected by Bey-Bienko in 1951. Species have been recorded from parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia, including Russia and China.
Podismopsis is a genus of grasshoppers in the subfamily Gomphocerinae and tribe Chrysochraontini, erected by Zubovski in 1900. Species have been recorded from central Europe through to temperate east Asia, including Japan.
Mesasippus is a genus of grasshoppers in the tribe Gomphocerini, erected by Yu S, Tarbinsky in 1931. Species have been recorded from eastern Europe through to central China.
Glyphotmethis is a genus of mostly European grasshoppers belonging to the family Pamphagidae, erected by Bey-Bienko in 1951. Belonging to the tribe Thrinchini, species can be found in south-eastern Europe through to Turkey.
Duroniella is a genus of Palaearctic grasshoppers in the tribe Phlaeobini and now placed in genus group Duronia, erected by Ignacio Bolívar in 1908. Distribution records include: the North and Horn of Africa, Sardinia, Greece and the Balkans, through to central Asia.
Eremippus is a genus of Palaearctic grasshoppers in the tribe Dociostaurini, erected by Boris Uvarov in 1926. Species are recorded from eastern Europe and central Asia through to eastern China.
Zubovskya is a genus of Palaearctic grasshoppers in the tribe Podismini and subtribe Miramellina, erected by D.P. Dovnar-Zapolskij in 1932. Species have a very disjointed distribution, with records from Romania, northern and eastern Russia, northern China, Korea and Japan.
