Dennis To Yu-hang (born 1 January 1981) is a Hong Kong martial artist and actor. He started his career as a wushu practitioner and won several awards at various competitions, including a silver medal at the 2002 Asian Games [1] [2] and a gold medal at the 2005 East Asian Games. [3] [4] He became an actor in 2007 and started by playing minor roles in Ip Man (2008), Bodyguards and Assassins (2009) and Ip Man 2 (2010). He is best known for his role as the Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man in the 2010 film The Legend Is Born – Ip Man .

Career

To started practising wushu at the age of six in the Hong Kong Wushu Union's classes. [5] He attended Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School in Sha Tin, Hong Kong.[ citation needed ] After graduating from school, To joined the Hong Kong Wushu Team [5] and started participating in wushu competitions. In 1999, at the age of 18, To won a gold medal in Changquan at the 1999 World Wushu Championships, becoming the youngest wushu champion in Hong Kong. He also won various medals at the 2001 and 2003 World Wushu Championships. In 2002, he won a silver medal in Changquan at the 2002 Asian Games. [1] [2] In 2005, To, together with Chan Siu-kit and Chow Ting-yu, won a gold medal in duilian at the East Asian Games. [3] [4]

To took part in the Hong Kong leg of the 2008 Summer Olympics torch relay as one of the 120 torchbearers in Hong Kong. [5]

To joined the entertainment industry in 2007. He is an artiste under National Arts Holdings Limited. [6] To made his debut in a minor role in the 2008 film Ip Man , directed by Wilson Yip and starring Donnie Yen, and he also appeared in the sequel Ip Man 2 (2010). Later, in 2010, he was cast as the lead character, Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man, in the 2010 film The Legend Is Born – Ip Man .

Ip Man is a 2008 Hong Kong biographical martial arts film based on the life of Ip Man, a grandmaster of the martial art Wing Chun and teacher of Bruce Lee. The film focuses on events in Ip's life that supposedly took place in the city of Foshan during the Sino-Japanese War. The film was directed by Wilson Yip, and stars Donnie Yen as Ip Man, with martial arts choreography by Sammo Hung. The supporting cast includes Simon Yam, Lynn Hung, Lam Ka-tung, Xing Yu, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, and Tenma Shibuya. The film was a co-production between China and Hong Kong, and was the last film to be distributed by Mandarin Films.

Though not made in collaboration with Wilson Yip's Ip Man or Ip Man 2, The Legend is Born features several actors who appeared in Yip's films, including Sammo Hung, Louis Fan, and Chen Zhihui. The film also features a special appearance by Ip Chun, the son of Ip Man. Released as Ip Man Zero in German and Dutch-speaking areas.

Moy Yat (梅逸) was a Hong Kong martial artist, painter, seal maker, teacher and author. He was a student of the legendary Wing Chun Kung-Fu teacher Yip Man from 1957 until Ip Man's death in 1972.

The Grandmaster is a 2013 martial arts drama film based on the life story of the Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man. The film was directed and written by Wong Kar-wai. It was released on 8 January 2013, in China. It was the opening film at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2013. The film was selected as part of the 2013 Hong Kong International Film Festival. The Weinstein Company acquired the international distribution rights for the film. The film was selected as the Hong Kong entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, making the January shortlist, but ultimately did not receive the nomination. Despite this, the film was nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design.

Ip Man: The Final Fight is a 2013 Hong Kong biographical martial arts film directed by Herman Yau, starring Anthony Wong, Anita Yuen, Jordan Chan, Eric Tsang and Gillian Chung. It is based on the life of the Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man. This film is the sequel of The Legend Is Born: Ip Man but has no connection to the earlier Ip Man films, such as Wilson Yip's Ip Man and Ip Man 2, and Wong Kar-wai's The Grandmaster.

Ip Man 3 is a 2015 Hong Kong biographical martial arts film directed by Wilson Yip, produced by Raymond Wong and written by Edmond Wong with action choreography by Yuen Woo-ping. It is the third film in the Ip Man film series based on the life of the Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man and features Donnie Yen reprising the title role. Ip Man's pupil Bruce Lee is portrayed by Danny Chan and Ip Man's fellow Wing Chun expert and rival Cheung Tin-chi (張天志), also known as Sum Nung, is portrayed by Zhang Jin. The film also features Mike Tyson. Principal photography commenced in March 2015 and ended in June of that year.

Hong Kong competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Hong Kong made its debut at the Asian Games in 1954 Manila, and the best achievement for the territory was in 2010 Asian Games held in neighboring Guangzhou, finishing with 8 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals totaling 40 medals. Jia Rui, is a retired professional wushu taolu athlete from Macau. He was one of the most dominant wushu taolu athletes of the 2000s and the early 2010s, and won the first gold medal for Macau at the Asian Games.

Geng Xiaoling is a retired professional wushu taolu athlete who represented Hong Kong. She is one of the most renowned taolu athletes of all time, having been a five-time world champion and a gold medallist at the Asian Games and the East Asian Games.

Ng Siu Ching is a former wushu taolu athlete from Hong Kong. She achieved an extensive medal record in international competition, becoming the first taolu athlete to win five gold medals at the World Wushu Championships. Ng also had multiple victories in the Asian Games and the East Asian Games.

Li Fai is a retired professional wushu taolu athlete from Hong Kong. She was a four-time world champion and was a medalist at the Asian Games and the East Asian Games.

Chow Ting Yu, known professionally as Marvel Chow, is a retired professional wushu taolu athlete and actor from Hong Kong.

Park Chan-dae is a South Korean retired competitive wushu taolu athlete who is currently the coach of the Korean Wushu Team. During the 1990s, he became one the most successful wushu athletes outside of China. He was a six-time world champion and has achieved victories at the Asian Games and the East Asian Games.
