Donna Bailey (born 1961) is an American politician and attorney from Maine. A Democrat,she serves in the Maine Senate representing District 31,which includes her residence in Saco,as well as the towns of Old Orchard Beach,Hollis,Limington and part of Buxton. Bailey grew up in Berlin,New Hampshire,and attended Berlin High School,Bates College and the University of Maine School of Law. She worked in real estate law,family law and probate law in private practice and was first elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2016. In 2020,Bailey was elected to her first term in the Maine Senate.
Bailey was born in 1961 [1] and grew up in Berlin,New Hampshire. [2] Her mother and grandfather worked in mills and factories,and Bailey was one of the first Head Start students as a young child. She began working at age 14 and graduated from Berlin High School in 1979,continuing to Bates College where she earned a degree in European history in 1979. [2]
Bailey credits a maternal great aunt,Hilda Brungot,with inspiring her to pursue a law career. Brungot was the longest-serving woman state representative in the New Hampshire General Court. Bailey attended the University of Maine School of Law and completed her J.D. in 1986. [2]
Beginning her legal career in real estate law,Bailey worked for the Maine Title Company for four years before opening a private practice in 1991. She continued in private civil practice,including real estate,family and probate law. [2] She served as the York County Judge of Probate for four years. [3]
Bailey first ran for the Maine House District 31 in 2016. She was unopposed in the primary and won the three-way general election with 50% of the vote. She was again unopposed in the 2018 House District 31 Democratic primary and won the three-way general election with 57% of the vote. [4] While serving in the House,Bailey was the House Chair of the Judiciary Committee,the House Chair of the Maine Indian Claims Task Force,an appointee to the Pre-Trial Justice Task Force,and chair of the subcommittee to re-write the Maine probate code. In 2018,Bailey ran again for House District 31 and was unopposed in the Democratic primary. In August 2020,Maine Senate District 14 incumbent Justin Chenette dropped out of the race and Bailey announced that she would instead run for the Senate seat. She announced her Senate candidacy on August 12,2020, [3] [5] and defeated Republican Craig Pendleton 55%-45% in the November general election. [4] [6] Bailey serves on the Appropriations and Financial Affairs &Government Oversight committees. [7]
Bailey and her husband,Joseph Parrette,live in Saco. [8] They have two sons and two grandchildren. Bailey spends her spare time reading,researching genealogy,kayaking,hiking,gardening and spending time with family. [2] [9]

Saco is a city in York County,Maine,United States. The population was 20,381 at the 2020 census. It is home to Ferry Beach State Park,Funtown Splashtown USA,Thornton Academy,as well as Saco Valley Shopping Center. General Dynamics Armament Systems,a subsidiary of the defense contractor General Dynamics. Saco sees much tourism during summer months due to its amusement parks,Camp Ellis Beach and Pier,Ferry Beach State Park,and proximity to Old Orchard Beach.
Craig V. Hickman is an American writer,farmer,and Democratic politician from Maine currently representing Maine Senate District 14. He served in the 126th Maine House of Representatives as the representative for Maine's 82nd district from 2012-2018. Hickman won his 2012 primary election by nearly 80%,and campaigned on ending hunger,eliminating regulations for small farms and businesses,and investing in sustainable energy initiatives. Hickman was elected to the Maine Senate in a 2021 special election,succeeding Shenna Bellows.
Saco Transportation Center,also referred to as Saco or Saco–Biddeford in some timetables,is a passenger transportation station in Saco,Maine,served by Amtrak,the national railroad passenger system,and other transportation providers. On average,about 110 passengers daily board or alight Amtrak's Downeaster service at the station,making it the third-busiest stop in Maine. The station is located next to the Pan Am Railways mainline,formerly the Western Route mainline of the Boston &Maine Railroad.

Incumbent Democratic governor John Baldacci was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third consecutive term. Primary elections took place on June 8,2010. The candidates who appeared on the November ballot were:Eliot Cutler (Independent),Paul LePage (Republican),Libby Mitchell (Democratic),Shawn Moody (Independent),and Kevin Scott (Independent).
Although the Ku Klux Klan is most often associated with white supremacy,the revived Klan of the 1920s was also anti-Catholic. In U.S. states such as Maine,which had a very small black population but a burgeoning number of Acadian,French-Canadian and Irish immigrants,the Klan manifested primarily as a Protestant nativist movement directed against the Catholic minority as well as African-Americans. For a period in the mid-1920s,the Klan captured elements of the Maine Republican Party,even helping to elect a governor,Ralph Owen Brewster.
Nancy B. Sullivan is an American politician and schoolteacher from Maine. Sullivan served as a Democratic State Senator from Maine's 4th District,representing part of York County,including the city of Biddeford and the neighboring towns of Kennebunkport,Arundel and Kennebunk from 2004 to 2012. Andrew McLean is an American politician from New Hampshire. McLean,a Democrat,was elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2012 and served four terms. He represented the 27th House District,which includes part of Gorham. Shortly before becoming term-limited in 2020,McLean resigned his seat in August 2020 after completing his Juris Doctor degree at University of Maine School of Law to take a position as a law clerk for the York County Superior Court in Maine.

Susan A. Deschambault is an American politician and retired law enforcement officer from Maine. Genevieve Kurilec McDonald is an American Democratic politician,lobster boat captain,and fisheries advocate from Maine. In 2018,she was the first female commercial fisherman to be elected to the Maine House of Representatives. McDonald represented House District #134:Cranberry Isles,Deer Isle,Frenchboro,Isle au Haut,North Haven,Southwest Harbor,Stonington,Swan's Island,Tremont,Vinalhaven,and Marshall Island. In 2013,she successfully led a social media campaign to prompt fishing gear producer Grundéns to produce commercial fishing gear for women. In June 2014,McDonald became the first woman to serve on the Maine Department of Marine Resources Lobster Advisory Council (LAC). McDonald resigned her House seat effective on May 10,2022,the day after the last Legislative Day of the Second Regular Session of the 130th Maine Legislature.
Anne Carney is an American Democratic politician and attorney from Maine. She currently serves in the Maine Senate representing District 29,which consists of Cape Elizabeth,South Portland,and part of Scarborough. Carney was born in Baltimore,Maryland and attended Haverford College where she received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.). She completed a Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S) from Harvard University in 1987 and moved to Maine in 1988. Carney completed a Juris Doctor at the University of Maine School of Law in 1990 and practiced employment,civil rights and municipal law for 16 years. She was a pro bono In-House Volunteer Attorney at Pine Tree Legal Assistance for eight years before running for Maine House of Representatives District 30 in 2018. In 2020,Carney was elected to her first term in the Maine Senate.
Sharri MacDonald is an American politician from Maine. She served in the city council of Old Orchard Beach until 2013,when she was recalled after a controversial vote in the council to terminate Old Orchard Beach's Town Manager. She served in the Maine House of Representatives from 2012 to 2014 from District 132,as a member of the Republican Party.
