Nicole Grohoski is an American cartographer,naturalist,and politician from Maine. She is a Democrat representing District 7 in the Maine Senate. Grohoski was born in Ellsworth,Maine and attended Ellsworth High School,the Maine School of Science and Mathematics,and Middlebury College,earning degrees in chemistry and environmental science. She served two terms in the Maine House of Representatives before running for the Maine Senate in a special election in June 2022. Grohoski was re-elected to Senate District 7 in November 2022 and is currently serving her second term.
Grohoski was raised in Ellsworth,Maine by Jackie Grohoski,a school nurse,and Ed Grohoski,an electrician and veteran of the Vietnam War. Nicole attended Ellsworth High School,the Maine School of Science and Mathematics,and Middlebury College where she received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and environmental studies in 2005. [2] [3]
In 2018,Grohoski ran for election to represent District 132 (Ellsworth and Trenton) in the Maine House of Representatives and defeated Republican Mark Remick to win. She was re-elected in 2020. On June 14,2022,Grohoski won a special election to fill a vacated Senate seat in Maine's Senate District 7 (most of Hancock County) through December 7,2022. [4] She won re-election to the Maine Senate on November 8,2022 against Republican Brian Langley. [3]
Grohoski lives in Ellsworth and works for a small mapping company. She volunteers with the Green Ellsworth citizens' initiative,is on the Board of Directors for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, [5] and drives for Meals on Wheels. [6] [2]

Hancock County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maine. As of the 2020 census,the population was 55,478. Its county seat is Ellsworth. The county was incorporated on June 25,1789,and named for John Hancock,the first governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Brian Langley is an American politician,restaurant owner and schoolteacher from Maine. Langley was a Republican State Senator from Maine's 28th District,representing much of Hancock County,including the population centers of Bar Harbor and Ellsworth. He was first elected to the Maine State Senate in 2010 after defeating Democrat James Schatz and Green Independent Lynne Williams. He previously served one term from 2008 to 2010 representing Ellsworth,Otis and Trenton in the Maine House of Representatives. He studied at the University of Southern Maine and Syracuse University and taught culinary arts at the Hancock County Technical Center. Langley could not run for reelection in 2018 due to term limits. He ran again for the 7th district again against his successor,Democrat Louis Luchini,and lost. Luchini resigned in early 2022 and Langley announced his candidacy for the special election to replace him. On June 14,2022,Langley lost the special election to Nicole Grohoski to fill the vacant seat for Senate District 7. In a rematch of the Special Election,Langley again lost the General Election to Nicole Grohoski on November 8,2022.
Eloise A. Vitelli is the majority leader of the Maine Senate. She is a Democrat representing Senate District 24,which serves all of Sagadahoc County and the adjacent town of Dresden,Maine in Lincoln County. Vitelli was first elected to the Maine Senate in a 2013 special election,but lost her re-election bid in 2014. She was re-elected in 2016,2018,2020,and 2022. Kathleen Riebe is an American politician from Salt Lake City,Utah. She was a member of the Utah State Board of Education through 2018,and now represents Utah's 15th senate district in the Utah State Senate. Prior to redistricting she represented the 8th district. On May 31,2023,she announced to KSL News Radio that she was running in the 2023 Utah's 2nd congressional district special election. She was nominated by the Utah Democratic Party to be their candidate in the general election.

Louis Luchini is an American Democratic politician and former professional long-distance runner from Maine. Luchini served in the Maine Senate representing District 7,Hancock County from 2018 to 2022. Luchini was born and raised in Ellsworth,Maine and began running competitively in middle school. He was a state champion runner at Ellsworth High School and continued to Stanford University where he earned a degree in human biology and was an all-American runner. Luchini graduated from Stanford in 2004 and signed a contract with Nike to run professionally,also participating in the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2004 and 2008. He returned to Maine in 2009,joined the cross-country coaching staff at Ellsworth High School and ran for the Maine House of Representatives in 2010. Luchini served four terms in the Maine House before running successfully for the Senate in 2018. In 2020,Luchini was re-elected to Senate District 7 for a second two-year term. In January 2022,he resigned from the Senate to accept a job in the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Genevieve Kurilec McDonald is an American Democratic politician,lobster boat captain,and fisheries advocate from Maine. In 2018,she was the first female commercial fisherman to be elected to the Maine House of Representatives. McDonald represented House District #134:Cranberry Isles,Deer Isle,Frenchboro,Isle au Haut,North Haven,Southwest Harbor,Stonington,Swan's Island,Tremont,Vinalhaven,and Marshall Island. In 2013,she successfully led a social media campaign to prompt fishing gear producer Grundéns to produce commercial fishing gear for women. In June 2014,McDonald became the first woman to serve on the Maine Department of Marine Resources Lobster Advisory Council (LAC). McDonald resigned her House seat effective on May 10,2022,the day after the last Legislative Day of the Second Regular Session of the 130th Maine Legislature.
The 2022 Maine State Senate election was held on Tuesday,November 8,2022,with the primary election using instant-runoff voting being held on June 14,2022,to elect the 131st Maine Senate. Voters in all 35 districts of the Maine State Senate elected their state senators. These elections coincided with those for governor,U.S. House and the Maine House of Representatives. Republicans needed to gain five seats to win control of the chamber.
Anne "Pinny" Beebe-Center is an American politician from Maine. She serves in the Maine State Senate representing District 12,comprising Knox County. Beebe-Center was born in Salem,Massachusetts and moved with her family throughout the East Coast of the United States before settling in Maine following college. She worked for the State of Maine and for various education and nonprofit organizations,first seeking public office in 2002 when she was elected commissioner of Knox County. Beebe-Center served three terms in the Maine House of Representatives beginning in 2015 before running for the Maine Senate in 2022. She is currently serving her first term.
