The Maine Republican Party is an affiliate of the United States Republican Party in Maine. It was founded in Strong, Maine, on August 7, 1854. The party currently does not control the governor's office or either chamber of the Maine Legislature, nor either of Maine's two U.S. House seats and only controls one of the state's U.S. Senate seats.
Bruce Emery Bickford is a retired long-distance runner from the United States. He claimed the gold medal at the 1987 Pan American Games in the Men's 10,000 metres, and represented his native country in the 1988 Summer Olympics. The House Committee on Un-American Activities (HCUA), popularly the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), was an investigative committee of the United States House of Representatives, created in 1938 to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities on the part of private citizens, public employees, and those organizations suspected of having communist ties. Berry ran 7 times from 2006 to 2020 for a seat in the Maine House of Representatives and was elected each time, representing Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Richmond, and Swan Island, an historic wildlife preserve in the Kennebec River. In the Legislature, Berry was elected by his peers to serve as Majority Whip and later as Majority Leader, and served as chair of the committee on Energy, Utilities and Technology, chair of the Joint Select Committee on Maine's Workforce and Economic Future (2015-2016), and as lead Democrat on the committee overseeing tax policy.
