Teresa S. Pierce is the Majority Leader of the Maine Senate. Pierce,a Democrat from Falmouth,Maine,has served in the Maine Senate since 2022 and previously served in the Maine House of Representatives from 2014 to 2022. [1] [2]
Prior to serving in the Legislature,Pierce served for nine years (three terms) on the Falmouth Town Council. [3]

Timothy Markham Sheldon is an American farmer,businessman,and politician who served as a member of the Washington State Senate,representing the 35th District between 1997 and 2023. Richard Glen Woodbury is an American politician and economist from Maine. Woodbury served as an unenrolled State Senator from Maine's 11th District,representing part of Cumberland County,including the population centers of Falmouth and Cumberland as well as his residence in Yarmouth. He was first elected to the Maine State Senate in 2010 after defeating incumbent Republican Gerald Davis and Green Independent Chris Miller. The Democrat in the race,Cynthia Bullens,dropped out of the race and endorsed Woodbury,though her name remained on the ballot. He served three terms from 2002 to 2008 in the Maine House of Representatives. He has also been a visiting scholar with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and written extensively on tax reform in Maine.
John Hodgdon was an American politician and farmer. The Hodgdon family were primarily farmers;his grandfather owned a significant tract of land in then disputed Aroostook County. John Hodgdon's grandfather died in 1819 and left his grandson the land,which eventually became the town of Hodgdon. His inheritance helped him attend Phillips Exeter Academy and Bowdoin College,from which he graduated in 1827. After Bowdoin,he moved to Bangor,Maine to study law under prominent area lawyer Allen Gilman. In 1833,he was a member of the Executive Council of Maine and from 1834 to 1838 he was a Land Agent for the state.

Rachel Talbot Ross is an American politician and activist. A Democrat from Portland,Talbot has been the Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives since December 2022. When she was first elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2016,Talbot Ross became the first Black woman to serve in the Maine Legislature. Talbot Ross represents District 40,consisting of the Parkside,Bayside,East Bayside,and Oakdale neighborhoods of Portland as well as the University of Southern Maine campus. She became Maine's first African-American House Speaker,and the highest-ranking African-American politician in Maine history,when she was elected speaker on December 7,2022.
Genevieve Kurilec McDonald is an American Democratic politician,lobster boat captain,and fisheries advocate from Maine. In 2018,she was the first female commercial fisherman to be elected to the Maine House of Representatives. McDonald represented House District #134:Cranberry Isles,Deer Isle,Frenchboro,Isle au Haut,North Haven,Southwest Harbor,Stonington,Swan's Island,Tremont,Vinalhaven,and Marshall Island. In 2013,she successfully led a social media campaign to prompt fishing gear producer Grundéns to produce commercial fishing gear for women. In June 2014,McDonald became the first woman to serve on the Maine Department of Marine Resources Lobster Advisory Council (LAC). McDonald resigned her House seat effective on May 10,2022,the day after the last Legislative Day of the Second Regular Session of the 130th Maine Legislature.
The 2022 Maine State Senate election was held on Tuesday,November 8,2022,with the primary election using instant-runoff voting being held on June 14,2022,to elect the 131st Maine Senate. Voters in all 35 districts of the Maine Senate elected their state senators. These elections coincided with those for governor,U.S. House and the Maine House of Representatives. Democrats retained their 23–12 advantage in the chamber.
