Edward Trippas (born 22 September 1998) is an Australian athlete who competes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. [1]
Trippas was 8 years old when he started in Little Athletics at the insistence of his parents. He enjoyed the social aspect of the sport and started running steeplechase at the age of 15. Within two years he ran a time of 5:55 (2000m steeple) and 9:04 for the 3000m steeplechase. Both performances earned him national medals. In 2017 he made his international debut in the junior event at the World Cross Country Championships. [2]
Trippas left Sydney and studied at Princeton University where he was coached by Jason Vigilante and ran in the NCAA championships. [3] Trippas took a hiatus from his studies in order to try and concentrate achieving a place at the Olympics. [4] His personal best time placed him third on the all time Australian list for the 3000 metres steeplechase.
In July 2021, Trippas was named in the Australian team to compete at the delayed 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. [5] He ran eleventh in his Men's 3000m steeplechase heat at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in a time of 8:29.90, missing out on the final. [6]
He is still studying at Princeton for his Economics degree and hopes to complete his studies by mid 2022. [2]
Michael Kipkorir Kipyego is a Kenyan runner who competes in marathon races. He was initially a specialist in the 3000 metres steeplechase and was the 2002 World Junior Champion in the event. He represented Kenya in the steeplechase at the World Championships in 2003 and was runner-up at the 2008 African Championships. He set a personal best of 8:08.48 in 2009.
Trevor Anthony Vincent, is a former Australian long-distance runner, specialising in the 3000 metres steeplechase. In 1962 he competed for his native country at the Commonwealth Games in Perth, Western Australia, winning the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase event, setting an inaugural Commonwealth Games record and breaking his own Australian record. He also competed at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan in the 3000 metres steeplechase event.
Genevieve Gregson is an Australian athletics competitor who specialized in the 3000 metre steeplechase but for the 2024 Olympics qualified for and was selected to run for Australia in the marathon. She qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and ran 9:26.11 in her Women's 3000m steeplechase heat to qualify for the final. Unfortunately she fell, rupturing her Achilles tendon, and was unable to complete the race.
Soufiane El Bakkali is a Moroccan runner specializing in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion, having previously finished fourth at the 2016 Rio Olympics. At the World Athletics Championships, El Bakkali won two gold medals, winning his first in 2022 and later in 2023, He won silver in 2017 and bronze in 2019. He also placed third at the 2019 African Games and second at the 2018 African Championships.
Yemane Haileselassie is an Eritrean male steeplechase runner. He is the national record holder at 8:22.52 minutes and represented his country at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Peruth Chemutai is a Ugandan steeplechase runner. She won the gold medal in the women's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, becoming the first Ugandan woman ever to win an Olympic medal.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a Norwegian middle- and long-distance runner. Ingebrigtsen is the current world record holder for the indoor 1500 metres and the 2000 metres, and holds the world best time over the two mile distance. Ingebrigtsen is a two-time World champion, winning gold medals in the 5000 metres in 2022 and 2023 and a four-time European champion, winning gold medals in the 1500 m and 5000 m in 2018 and 2022. He also won a gold medal in the 1500 m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting an Olympic and European record. Georgia Winkcup is an Australian athlete. She represented Australia in the women's 3000m steeplechase at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Winkcup ran 13th in her Women's 3000m steeplechase heat but failed to qualify for the final.

He is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medallist in the event and won silver medals at the 2019, 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships. He finished fifth at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the 3000 m steeplechase.
