Alicja Konieczek (born 2 November 1994) is a Polish Olympic runner specializing in the 3000 meters steeplechase. [3] In 2020 she joined On Athletics Club sponsored by Swiss company On. She won the gold medal at the 2019 Summer Universiade and the Super League European Team Championships in Chorzow. Tokyo 2020 was her first Olympics, where she ran the second fastest time of her career (9:31.79) and took 20th place. In 2019, she ran 9:44.96 at the IAAF World Championships in Qatar placing 28th.
Her younger sister Aneta graduated from University of Oregon in 2022. [4] She has multiply medals from the Polish Championships and a few Polish records in different age categories. Their older brother Dawid was also a runner that graduated from Western Colorado University in 2017 who has won several medals at the age National Championships and represented Poland internationally. [5]
In 2020, Alicja Konieczek served as a volunteer coach with the University of New Mexico cross country & track and field teams and now remotely coaches distance runners.
In January 2022, Alicja left the prestigious training group, On Athletics Club, in Boulder, Colorado that is coached by Dathan Ritzenhein. She is based in Albuquerque, NM, where she is training for the 2024 Olympics. [6]
At the 2024 Summer Olympics, she set a new national record of 9:16.51 in the 3000 metres steeplechase and improved the record previously held by Wioletta Frankiewicz. [7]
In 2014, Alicja started at the Western Colorado University where she graduated in 2019 [8] with a summa cum laude honors in Exercise Sport Science.

Henry Rono was a Kenyan track and field athlete who specialised in various long-distance running events. Although he never competed at the Olympics, Rono is remembered as one of the most prolific collegiate competitors in the history of track in the United States, as well as being the former record holder for the 3000 metres steeplechase for over a decade. Rono also set the world record for the 5000 metres twice: once in 1978, then again in 1981.
Gulnara Iskanderovna Samitova-Galkina is a Russian distance runner. In July 2004 she ran 3000 metres steeplechase in a new world record of 9:01.59 minutes. Early that year she won a bronze medal over 1500 metres at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
Tatyana Petrova Arkhipova is a Russian runner. She is a former specialist in the 3000 metres steeplechase, and won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She later moved up to marathon and won the Olympic bronze medal in that event at the 2012 London Games.
Jennifer Simpson is an American middle- and long-distance runner, formerly a steeplechaser. She won the gold medal in the 1500 meters at the 2011 World Championships, silvers at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships, and a bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the event.
Katarzyna Kowalska is a Polish long-distance runner who specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She represented Poland at the 2008 Olympic Games and 2012 Olympic Games and reached the final of the 2009 World Championships in Athletics. She also competed at the 2006 European Athletics Championships and the 2007, 2009, and 2013 World Championships.
Emma Jane Coburn is an American middle-distance runner who specializes in the 3000-meters steeplechase. She holds the distinction of being a world champion, world silver medalist, Olympic bronze medalist, three-time Olympian and 10-time US National Champion in the steeplechase.
Eilish McColgan is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2022 Commonwealth Games 10,000 metres champion with the Games record, and 5000 metres silver medallist. McColgan is a four-time European Championships medallist, winning silver medals for the 5000 m in 2018 and 10,000 m in 2022, bronze in the 5000 m in 2022, and a bronze for the indoor 3000 metres in 2017. She is the European record holder for the 10 km road race, and the British record holder for the 5000 m, 10,000 m, 5 km and half marathon. Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal is a Norwegian middle-, long-distance and steeplechase runner. She won bronze medals for the 10,000 metres at the 2016 European Championships, and in the 3000 m steeplechase at the 2018 European Championships. Grøvdal earned nine individual medals at the European Cross Country Championships, an unsurpassed record by a female athlete in the meet history.
Matylda Kowal is a Polish middle- and long-distance runner. She competed in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2012 Summer Olympics, placing 41st with a time of 10:08.84. She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Krystian Zalewski is a Polish distance runner specialising in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He won the silver medal at the 2014 European Championships. Additionally, he represented his country at three consecutive World Championships, reaching the final in 2015. He also competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics without qualifying for the final.
Norah Jeruto Tanui is a Kazakhstani long-distance runner specialising in the steeplechase. She won the gold medal in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2022 World Championships, becoming the first athlete representing Kazakhstan to win a title at the World Athletics Championships and setting a championship record in the process. Lamecha Girma is an Ethiopian athlete who specialises in the 3,000 metres steeplechase. He is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medallist in the event and won silver medals at the 2019, 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships. Lamecha also won a silver in the 3,000 metres at the 2022 World Indoor Championships. He is the world indoor record holder for the 3,000 metres, which was set in February 2023. In June 2023 at the Meeting de Paris of the Diamond League, he broke the world record for the men's 3,000 metres steeplechase.
Aleksandra Lisowska is a Polish long-distance runner. She won the gold medal in the marathon at the 2022 European Athletics Championships.

George Beamish is a New Zealand middle- and long-distance runner, who won the 1500 metres at the 2024 World Indoor Championships. He holds the Oceania area record in the 3000 m steeplechase of 8:09.64 and the New Zealand record in the indoor 3000 m and 5000 m. He finished fifth at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the 3000 m steeplechase.
