Maia Ramsden (born 23 March 2002) is a track and field and cross-country athlete from New Zealand. [2]
Ramsden was born in New York when her father, Mark Ramsden, who had a career in foreign affairs for the New Zealand Government, was assigned to the United Nations. From the age of three, she was raised in Wellington, New Zealand. She studied at International Schools in Suva, Fiji, Solomon Islands and Addis Ababa. Maia began studying History and Literature, with a focus on the Pacific at Harvard University, in 2020. Her mother is called Margot and she has siblings called Griffyn and Isla. [3] [4] [5] [1]
Ramsden was U20 New Zealand national champion over 800m and 1500m distances in March 2020. [6]
Competing indoors in Boston in February 2023, she also ran a new personal best time of 4:30.19 for the mile, which placed her second on the all-time New Zealand women’s mile lists behind only Kim Smith, who ran 4:24.14 in 2008. [7]
Ramsden won the 1500m title at the 2023 NCAA Outdoors Championships, held in Austin, Texas in June 2023, in a then new personal best time of 4:08.60. [8] In doing so, she became the second New Zealander to win a track title at an outdoor NCAA Championships, and the sixth overall all-time female New Zealander at the distance. [9] She also became the first winner from Harvard in the event since 1986. [10]
In October 2023 Ramsden signed an NIL deal with On. [11]
In her senior year of cross country, Ramsden finished 10th overall at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships. [12]
In February 2024, Ramsden set a new personal mile best of 4:24.83 in the Wannamaker mile at the Millrose Games in New York. [13] She qualified for the final of the women's 1500 metres race at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, with a national indoor record time of 4:06.51. She finished tenth in the final with a time of 4:06.88. [14] At the 2024 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships on 9 March 2024, Ramsden set a new meet record to win the mile in 4:25.13. [15] On 18 May at the Los Angeles Grand Prix she broke the national 1500m record with 4:02.58. [16]
On 8 June 2024 Ramsden retained her NCAA 1500m title.
Ramsden joined the Boulder, Colorado-based On Athletics Club in June 2024. [17] She competed in the 1500 metres at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in August 2024, running a national record time of 4:02.20. [18]
Shannon Solares-Rowbury is an American middle-distance runner from San Francisco, California. After competing collegiately for Duke University, she turned professional in 2007. Rowbury has represented the United States at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 2012, becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the event. She also represented the United States at the World Championships in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017, winning the bronze medal in the 1500 meters in 2009. In 2015, Rowbury helped set the world record with the U.S. team for the distance medley relay event, and set a then-American record for 1500 meters on July 17, 2015, breaking Mary Slaney's 32 year-old mark with a time of 3:56.29.
Matthew Centrowitz Jr. is an American middle-distance runner, who specializes in the 1500 metres. He won a gold medal in the event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He also achieved a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships and a silver medal at the 2013 World Championships. Centrowitz is a five-time national champion in the 1500 m at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Laura Muir is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medallist in the 1500 metres, having previously finished seventh in the event at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Muir won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships, and has three other top five placings in 1500 m finals at the World Athletics Championships, finishing fifth in 2015, fourth in 2017 and fifth in 2019. She is a two-time European 1500 m champion from 2018 and 2022 as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games 1500 m champion and 800 metres bronze medallist.
Cory Ann McGee is an American professional middle distance runner and Olympian from Pass Christian, Mississippi. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games she finished 12th in the 1500-meters. She was the 2011 Pan American U20 Champion and 2011 USA Juniors Outdoor Champion in the 1500-meters. In May 2022 she ran a personal best of 4:00.34 in the 1500-meters to move to 16th place on the US fastest all-time list.

Sophie O'Sullivan is an Irish athlete. She won a silver medal in the 800 metres at the 2018 European Athletics U18 Championships in Győr, Hungary. O'Sullivan won 1500 metres gold at the 2023 European Athletics U23 Championships in Espoo, Finland. She represents the Washington Huskies at the University of Washington in NCAA track and field competitions.
Taylor Ewert is an American long-distance runner and college track and field athlete for the University of Arkansas and Michigan State University. In high school, she set numerous records and was the cross country OHSAA Division I individual state champion in 2019, representing Beavercreek High School. Ewert committed to the University of Arkansas later that year, and in 2020, she was named the Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
Elinor Purrier St. Pierre, better known as Elle Purrier St. Pierre, is an American track and field athlete who specializes in middle-distance and long-distance running. She won a gold medal in the 3000 meters at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow. Purrier is a two-time Olympian for the United States, making the final in the 1500m at both the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.
Samuel Tanner is a New Zealand middle- and long-distance runner specialising in the 1500 metres. He is Māori; his iwi affiliation is Ngāpuhi. Tanner is the New Zealand indoor record holder for the 1500 metres.
Cole Hocker is an American middle- and long-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 meters. He won the gold medal in the event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, setting an Olympic record and a North American area record of 3:27.65.
Yared Nuguse is an American professional middle-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 meters. He was the 2019 NCAA Division I champion in the event and bronze medalist from the 2024 Summer Olympics. Nuguse is the North American outdoor record holder over the one mile distance, and the North American indoor record holder for the 1500 meters, one mile and 3000 meters.
George Beamish is a New Zealand middle- and long-distance runner, who won the 1500 metres at the 2024 World Indoor Championships. He holds the Oceania area record in the 3000 m steeplechase of 8:09.64 and the New Zealand record in the indoor 3000 m and 5000 m. He finished fifth at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the 3000 m steeplechase.
