The Elliot Lake Standard is a weekly newspaper, published in Elliot Lake, Ontario. Owned by Postmedia, the paper publishes each Thursday and serves much of the North Shore region, including Iron Bridge, Blind River, Spanish and Sables-Spanish Rivers.
The paper was first published in the 1880s on St. Joseph Island, as the St. Joseph Island Herald. Following the emergence of Elliot Lake as the region's principal community in the 1950s, the paper moved to the city and became the Elliot Lake Standard in 1957.

Captain George Vancouver was a British Royal Navy officer best known for his 1791–1795 expedition, which explored and charted North America's northwestern Pacific Coast regions, including the coasts of what are now the Canadian province of British Columbia and the U.S. states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and California. The expedition also explored the Hawaiian Islands and the southwest coast of Australia.

Algoma District is a district and census division in Northeastern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario.
Espanola is a town in Northern Ontario, Canada, in the Sudbury District. It is situated on the Spanish River, approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) west of downtown Sudbury, and just south of the junction of Highway 6 and Highway 17. The town is where the first experimental rules for the sport of ringette were created in 1963 by Mirl Arthur "Red" McCarthy using a group of local high school girls. Today, Espanola is considered "The Home of Ringette" while North Bay, Ontario, is considered the "Birthplace of Ringette" though the title of "birthplace of ringette" is often shared by both.
