Emergency is an unreleased Indian Hindi-language biographical political drama film directed and co-produced by Kangana Ranaut, based on a screenplay by Ritesh Shah and story written by Ranaut. [2] Based on the Indian Emergency, it stars Ranaut as former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. [3] [4] The film also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles.

Contents

Principal photography commenced in July 2022 and ended in January 2023. [5] It was scheduled for release on 6 September 2024, but it has been postponed as the film failed to clear the censorship requirements of the Central Board of Film Certification. [6] [7]

The music of the film is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar and Arko while the background score is composed by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara. Lyrics are written by Manoj Muntashir. The first single titled "Singhasan Khali Karo" was released on 26 August 2024. [15]

Release

Initially announced to release in October–November 2023, the film was re-scheduled to release on 14 June 2024. [16] [17] But it was again postponed due to the Lok Sabha elections. [18] The film was then scheduled to release on 6 September 2024. [19]

On 30 August 2024, Ranaut claimed the film was being denied a certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification possibly due to external pressures. [20] The Government of Telangana has also considered a ban on the film due to objections raised by the Sikh community members. [21] Later, the film was postponed due to these reasons. [22]

On 17 October 2024, Ranaut shared on social media that the film had been finally cleared by the CBFC. [23]
