Faisal Vawda is a Pakistani politician who was the Federal Minister for Water Resources from 5 October 2018 to 3 March 2021. He has previously been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till March 2021. He was elected as a senator after winning in the 2021 Senate Elections on a seat from Sindh and held the seat until he was disqualified for being a dual national on 9 February 2022. He was a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from 2010 to 2022, when his membership was terminated by the party.

Political career

Faisal Vawda was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from the Constituency NA-249 (Karachi West-II) as a candidate of PTI in the 2018 General Elections. He received 35,344 votes and defeated Shahbaz Sharif. [3] [4] Following his successful election, a petition was submitted in the Sindh High Court seeking the disqualification of Faisal Vawda for not disclosing the details of his foreign bank accounts and properties in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan. [5]

On 5 October 2018, he was inducted into the federal cabinet of Prime Minister Imran Khan [6] and was appointed as Federal Minister for Water Resources. [7]

On 3 March 2021, the day of the 2021 Senate Elections, he resigned from his seat as a member of the National Assembly. [8] He became a Senator after winning in the 2021 Senate Elections and held the seat till 9 February 2022 when he was disqualified by the ECP for being a dual national. [9] [10]

His party membership was terminated on 29 October 2022 by PTI chairman Imran Khan. [11]

As of 2010, Faisal Vawda is owner of Faisal Vawda Group. [12]

In 2016, NAB summoned Faisal Vawda for an inquiry pertaining to fraudulent allotment of amenity plots. A notice issued by NAB said that hundreds of amenity plots have been allotted to Faisal Vawda Group, a company owned by Vawda himself. [13]

In 2019, Saudi Pak Leasing Company Limited filed a plea against Vawda and his father for not returning the loan taken for business purposes. [14]

In 2020, the Federal Board of Revenue released its 2018 tax directory for parliamentarians which noted that Vawda did not pay any taxes. He later denied the allegations by posting his tax returns on his Twitter feed. [15]

In early October 2021, Faisal Vawda was named in the Pandora Papers. [16]

Termination

As a senior member of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf, Faisal Vawda held a press conference on 26 October 2022, where he talked about Imran Khan's azadi long march and disclosed party policy for azadi march. [17] According to the PTI, Faisal Vawda's press conference was against the party policy and he talked to media without notifying the party. As a result Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf issued him a show cause notice [18] and need answer for his press talk. On 29 October 2022 the PTI issued a termination letter [11] to Faisal Vawda undersigned the chairman of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan as he failed to respond to the party's show cause notice.[ citation needed ]

He has served as Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf since he assumed the role on 27 May 2023. He resigned from the position on 4 September 2024 and his resignation was accepted by Imran Khan on 7 September.

Mian Ghulam Sarwar Khan is a Pakistani politician who was the former Federal Minister for Aviation, in office from 24 May 2019 to 10 April 2022. Prior to this position, he was appointed as Federal Minister for Petroleum on 20 August 2018, but he was shifted to the Aviation Ministry. He had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, from August 2018 till January 2023. Previously, he was a member of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2007 and again from June 2013 to May 2018. He remained a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from 1985 to 1996.

General elections were held in Pakistan on 25 July 2018 to elect the members of the 15th National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies. The three major parties were Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by Imran Khan, the Pakistan Muslim League, led by Shehbaz Sharif, and the Pakistan People's Party, led by Bilawal Bhutto. The PTI won the most seats in the National Assembly but fell short of a majority; the party subsequently formed a coalition government with several smaller parties. At the provincial level, the PTI remained the largest party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP); the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) retained its dominance in Sindh; and the newly formed Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) emerged as the largest party in Balochistan. Ihtisab March was a protest march led by Imran Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf against prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The march was in response to the Panama Papers in 2016 and PTI organized it over the claims of corruption of the Sharif family. The march began on 7 August 2016 from Peshawar.

Malik Nawab Sher Waseer WAS in Chack No 633 GB Riaz NAGAR is a Pakistani politician who had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till August 2023. Previously he was a member of the National Assembly from 2008 to 2013.

Sahabzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan is a Pakistani politician who served as the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, from 5 October 2018 to 18 November 2019. Abdul Aleem Khan is a Pakistani politician and businessman from Lahore. Abdul Aleem Khan currently serves as a member of the National Assembly after being elected from Constituency NA 117, Shahdara Lahore in the general elections held on 8 February 2024. Abdul Aleem Khan owns PEMRA Samaa TV and Vision Group. He was also the Senior Minister of Punjab and Minister of Food from 2020 to 2021. He also served as a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from August 2018 to 2021. He announced his separation from politics on Twitter in a tweet. Later in a statement to the media, he said that he had no intentions of joining politics again and that he would focus on the welfare through the Abdul Aleem Khan Foundation. In June 2023 he launched the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party along with Jahangir Khan Tareen. He is a founding member and the incumbent president of the party.

Faisal Javed Khan is a Pakistani politician who was a Member of the Senate of Pakistan, from March 2018 to March 2024. He was also elected as Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting. Senator Faisal Javed Khan is the most followed Senator in Pakistan on Twitter.

Zartaj Gul is a Pakistani politician who served as Minister of State for Climate Change, in Imran Khan ministry from 5 October 2018 until 10 April 2022 when Imran Khan was ousted by a no-confidence motion. She remained a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan between August 2018 and January 2023, and again from 29 February 2024 from Constituency NA-185 Dera Ghazi Khan-II she was elected from Constituency in 2024 Pakistani General Elections held on 8th February 2024.

The PTI foreign funding case is a case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf where it obtained funds from Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, overseas Pakistanis and their companies. One of those overseas Pakistanis being the well known Pakistani Businessman Arif Naqvi who according to the Wall Street Journal had also provided funds to Nawaz Sharif and his colleagues. Islamabad High Court in its detailed judgement on 5 April 2023 pronounced not enough documentary evidence existed to implicate Imran Khan in the case.

By-elections were held on 8 National Assembly and 3 Punjab Assembly constituencies in Pakistan on 16 October 2022 and 1 National Assembly seat on 30 October 2022. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf got a landslide victory by winning 7 out of 9 National Assembly and 2 out of 3 Punjab Assembly seats whereas the Pakistan Democratic Movement, an alliance of 14 parties, was only able to win 2 National Assembly seats and 1 Punjab Assembly seat.
