Ijaz Ahmed Shah is a Pakistani politician,former military officer and spy. [1] He was serving as the Federal Minister for Narcotics Control,was in office since 11 December 2020. [2] Previously,he served as the Federal Minister for interior from April 2019 to 11 December 2020 and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs from March 2019 to April 2019. He was a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till July 2022.
Shah was a long-term close associate of President Pervez Musharraf, [1] and was Director of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Punjab during Musharraf's 1999 coup. [3] Musharraf appointed Shah as Director-General of Intelligence Bureau of Pakistan from 2004 to 2008. [4] [5] Shah's tenure as the head of Intelligence Bureau was controversial with accusations of political victimisation and for undermining the judiciary. [6]
According to the PPP Senator Latif Khosa,days after the 2007 Karachi bombings,Benazir Bhutto in a letter to President Musharaf written on 16 October 2007 allegedly named Ijaz Shah as one of the four persons including the then chief minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi,the then chief minister of Sindh Arbab Ghulam Rahim,and the former ISI chief Hamid Gul she suspected were behind the attacks. General Ziauddin Butt,former Director General of the ISI allegedly revealed in October 2011 that according to his knowledge Ijaz Shah,had kept Osama bin Laden in an Intelligence Bureau of Pakistan safe house in Abbottabad [8] but later denied making any such statement,after Shah announced filing a defamation suit against him. [9]
Shah has served as the Home Secretary of Punjab in 2002. [10] During his tenure,he was accused of the formation of the PML-Q and PPP-Patriots. [11] [3]
In 2004,he was appointed as the Pakistani High Commissioner to Australia but was rejected by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs. [11]
He ran for the seat of the National Assembly of Pakistan from NA-118 (Nankana Sahib-II) as an independent candidate in 2013 Pakistani general election,but was unsuccessful. [10]
He again ran for the seat of the National Assembly of Pakistan from NA-118 (Nankana Sahib-II) as an independent candidate,with support of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI),in 2015 by-elections,but was again unsuccessful. [10] He lost to Shizra Mansab Ali Khan.
He was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from NA-118 (Nankana Sahib-II) as a candidate of PTI in 2018 Pakistani general election. [10] He received 63,818 votes and defeated Shezra Mansab Ali of Pakistan Muslim League (N). [12]
In March 2019,he was made the Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs which he held till 16 April 2019. [13]
On 18 April 2019,in a cabinet reshuffle,he was sworn in as Federal Interior Minister of Pakistan,the post previously held by Shehryar Khan Afridi. [14]
On 10 April 2022,because of the motion of no confidence,he resigned from the National Assembly on the orders of Imran Khan. The new government did not accept the resignations of many members for fear of deteriorating the number of members. However,accepting the resignations of eleven members on 28 July 2022,one of them was Ijaz Ahmed Shah. Later,by-elections were held again on his seat,Imran Khan made a surprising move to stand on his own in all the by-seats. [15]
His younger brothers,Pir Hassan Ahmad Shah,also called Papu Shah,and Pir Tariq Ahmed Shah,who was elected president of Nankana District Bar Association,both died in 2020,the former in July and the latter in August. [16]
Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo is a Pakistani politician. Wattoo was first elected,in 1985,the Speaker of Provincial Assembly of the Punjab. Thrice elected to the same office,he secured the office of the Chief Minister of Punjab,Pakistan in 1993 on the ticket of Pakistan Muslim League (J),after a series of tug of war between the federal and provincial government Wattoo twice had to leave office between his term only to leave office permanently on 16 November 1996.

General elections were held in Pakistan on 25 July 2018 to elect the members of the 15th National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies. The three major parties were Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI),led by Imran Khan,the Pakistan Muslim League,led by Shehbaz Sharif,and the Pakistan People's Party,led by Bilawal Bhutto. The PTI won the most seats in the National Assembly but fell short of a majority;the party subsequently formed a coalition government with several smaller parties. At the provincial level,the PTI remained the largest party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP);the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) retained its dominance in Sindh;and the newly formed Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) emerged as the largest party in Balochistan. In Punjab,the result was a hung parliament,with the Pakistan Muslim League (N) winning the most seats. However,after several independent MPAs joined the PTI,the latter became the largest party and was able to form a government.

The Imran Khan government was the federal cabinet of Pakistan from 20 August 2018 to 10 April 2022. It was formed by Imran Khan following general elections on 25 July 2018,which saw the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf come to power. The cabinet had 34 federal ministers,7 ministers of state,10 Advisers to the Prime Minister and 35 Special Assistants to the Prime Minister (SAPM),most of whom assumed office on 20 August 2018. The government was dissolved on 3 April 2022 following the dissolution of the National Assembly of Pakistan by the President,Arif Alvi at the behest of the Prime Minister,Imran Khan. On 7 April 2022,the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered the restoration of the Federal Cabinet and National Assembly. On 10 April 2022 the government was defeated in a Vote of No-confidence (VONC) against Imran Khan,leading to its subsequent dissolution.
By-elections were held on 8 National Assembly and 3 Punjab Assembly constituencies in Pakistan on 16 October 2022 and 1 National Assembly seat on 30 October 2022. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf got a landslide victory by winning 7 out of 9 National Assembly and 2 out of 3 Punjab Assembly seats whereas the Pakistan Democratic Movement,an alliance of 14 parties,was only able to win 2 National Assembly seats and 1 Punjab Assembly seat.
