Malik Amin Aslam (born November 27,1966) is a Pakistani environmentalist and politician who served as Federal Minister of State for Environment from 2004-2007 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Shukat Aziz https://www.cabinet.gov.pk/SiteImage/Misc/files/Federal%20Cabinet%201947/24%20Shaukat%20Aziz%2C%2028-08-2004%20to%2015-11-2007.pdf/and later as Federal Minister and Adviser to former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan for Climate Change. A notable personality in Attock District,he has previously chaired the flagship Green Growth Initiative for the KPK province in Pakistan from 2013 till 2018,which included the mass a forestation “Billion Tree Tsunami”project. [3]
Malik Amin Aslam was born into a Punjabi Muslim family of the Awan clan in Karachi on November 27,1966.
His family has been in politics for three generations,as his father served as member of National Assembly from Attock thrice and was the Punjab revenue minister.
He got his early education from the Aitchison College. He later moved to Lahore in 1990 to study for the degree of BSc in Electrical Engineering from UET Lahore. For higher education,he went abroad to get MBA in Finance from McGill University in 1993 and a MSc in Environmental Management from University of Oxford in 1996. [4]
According to the official profile on Minister of Climate Change Government of Pakistan,he completed his thesis on the utility of the “emissions trading”concept within the context of managing the Climate Change issue. [1]
He is also a member of the International Editorial Board of Climate Policy Journal since 1998. [4]
He is married with and is a father of two sons and a daughter.
His hobbies include scuba diving and sky diving.
After his studies,Malik Amin Aslam worked as the private consultant with the World Bank and United Nations on environmental issues. His area of expertise is climate change and has written a number of articles and co-authored two books that have been published by the World Resource Institute in Washington,D.C. He was also on the National Environmental Advisory Board and the Environmental Protection Council before entering politics. He considers himself a technocrat-turned-politician. An agriculturist/environment consultant by profession,he has also served as a member of the UN Working Group on Climate Change since 1997. [5]
On Sep 13,2011,he was elected to serve on the governing council of International Union for Conservation of Nature for a four-year term in 2012. [6] He was re-elected as Regional Councillor for Asia (2016-2020) at the World Conservation Congress held in Hawaii (September 2016). He also chaired the flagship "Green Growth initiative" for the province of KPK in Pakistan –which included the mass afforestation "Billion Tree Tsunami" project. He was also chosen to serve on the high level "International Advisory Council" for the Eco-Forum Global. In August 2018,Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated Malik as Advisor on Climate Change. [7]
On March 23,2019,Malik was honored with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi for his efforts in implementing the Billion Tree Tsunami and his work for the environment. [8]
He began his political career at the time when Islamic Republic of Pakistan under the control of military dictator Pervez Musharraf. He first successfully ran in local elections from Attock,Punjab,Pakistan,in 2001.
A year later,under the military regime he became an elected Member of National Assembly after the controversial election of 2002 and served as Minister of State for Environment. [9] He ran on the ticket of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) from NA-57 (Attock-I). His tenure ended in 2007.
In the general elections of 2008,he contested independently and lost with the margin of only 200 votes in a tainted electoral process] . [10]
He joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf [11] on November 19,2011 and became the architect of the party's green agendahttps://www.dawn.com/news/790464/ptis-green-policy-vision. He ran for same seat in general elections of 2013 but lost by only 2000 votes to Sheikh Aftab Ahmed from Pakistan Muslim League (N). [12] His appeal for a vote recount was readily accepted by the Election Commission but then scrapped without a reason just one day after that. Attock was considered an important seat in 2018 elections. During this time Imran Khan embraced Major(r) Tahir Sadiq Khan,a powerful political personality,joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf. [13] This opened up a lot of speculations among the locals about who would get the party ticket. In the end Imran Khan decided to give the ticket to Major(r) Tahir Sadiq. The supporters of Malik Amin Aslam were in shock over the denial of NA ticket to him from Attock. Few days after the announcement of the party ticket,at a function,Imran Khan showered praise on Malik Amin Aslam for making the Billion Tree Tsunami project a great success and promised to make him federal minister for environment after the elections. Malik Amin Aslam Khan mostly remains frustrated due to his defeat from Major Tahir Sadiq [14] He parted ways with PTI on 18 May 2023 due to differences on the party's controversial involvement in violent protests especially targeting military installations.
Prime Minister Imran Khan fulfilled his promise in August 2018,when he nominated Malik Amin Aslam for the Cabinet Seat of Adviser for Climate Change to the Prime Minister of Pakistan. This decision was very well received by the local environmentalists. [15]
Fulfilling the trust reposed in him by Imran Khan,Malik Amin Aslam spearheaded an unprecedented green transformation in Pakistan from 2018-2022 . The 2014 Tsunami March,also called the Azadi movement,was a protest march in Pakistan from 14 August to 17 December 2014. The march was organised by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party,opposing Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif over claims of systematic election-rigging by the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) in the 2013 general election that was later order for reelection and PTI won one out of three seats from the four claimed seats. Party leader Imran Khan had announced plans for an August march from Lahore to Islamabad with a group of protesters in a PTI jalsa (demonstration) in Bahawalpur on 27 June 2014. On 17 December,a day after the 2014 Peshawar school massacre,Khan called off the protest.

Ihtisab March was a protest march led by Imran Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf against prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The march was in response to the Panama Papers in 2016 and PTI organized it over the claims of corruption of the Sharif family. The march began on 7 August 2016 from Peshawar.
The Billion Tree Tsunami was a tree plantation drive launched in 2014,by the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,Pakistan,in response to the challenge of global warming. Pakistan's Billion Tree Tsunami restores 350,000 hectares of forests and degraded land to surpass its Bonn Challenge commitment. The project aimed at improving the ecosystems of classified forests,as well as privately owned waste and farm lands,and therefore entails working in close collaboration with concerned communities and stakeholders to ensure their meaningful participation through effectuating project promotion and extension services. The project was completed in August 2017,ahead of schedule.
Abdul Aleem Khan is a Pakistani politician and businessman from Lahore. Abdul Aleem Khan currently serves as a member of the National Assembly after being elected from Constituency NA 117,Shahdara Lahore in the general elections held on February 8th 2024. Abdul Aleem Khan owns Samaa TV and Vision Group. He was also the Senior Minister of Punjab and Minister of Food from 2020 to 2021. He also served as a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from August 2018 to 2021. He announced his separation from politics on Twitter in a tweet. Later in a statement to the media,he said that he had no intentions of joining politics again and that he would focus on the welfare work done through the Abdul Aleem Khan Foundation but soon after the economic crisis and instability in Pakistan,he decided to join politics again and launched the political party along with renowned politician Jahangir Khan Tareen named the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party in June 2023 to help the natio. He is a founding member and president of the party.
Muhammad Hammad Azhar is a Pakistani politician from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He was elected from NA-126 (Lahore-IV) in 2018 Pakistani general election and remained a member of National Assembly of Pakistan between August 2018 to January 2023. He served in various ministerial positions in Imran Khan ministry between 2018 and April 2022. He served as Energy Minister of Pakistan and Finance Minister of Pakistan between 16 April 2021 to 3 April 2022 and 29 March 2021 to 16 April 2021 respectively.

Plant for Pakistan (Plant4Pakistan),also known as 10 Billion Tree Tsunami,is a five-year project to plant 10 billion trees across Pakistan from 2018 to 2023. Prime Minister Imran Khan started the drive on 2 September 2018 with approximately 1.5 million trees planted on the first day. The campaign was based on the successful Billion Tree Tsunami campaign of the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government,also led by Imran Khan,in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2014. This different initiative is often confused with the initiative of the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who launched a national campaign of Green Pakistan and also allocated budget funding from the PSDP.
