The Federated States of Micronesia Athletic Association (FSMAA) is the governing body for the sport of athletics in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). [1] [2]

History

Athletes from Yap, Truk (now Chuuk), Ponape (now Pohnpei) and Kusaie (now Kosrae), but then part of the Ponape District (then still being part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands), participated already in three separate teams at the 1969 Micronesian Games, [3] at the 1975 South Pacific Games as part of a combined Micronesia team, [4] and also after re-establishment of the Micronesian Games in 1990, in four separate teams. [5]

It is reported, that a FSM Athletics Federation was already formed many years ago, [6] but the official foundation of FSMAA occurred only in 1996, and its affiliation to the IAAF in the year 1997. [7]

Julio Akapito from Chuuk formerly served as president of FSMAA. [8]

Current president is Ted Rutun from Yap. [1] [2]

Federated States of Micronesia Football Association

The Federated States of Micronesia Football Association or FSMFA is the governing body of football in the Federated States of Micronesia, and of the national team. They are not an associate member of FIFA.

The Habele Outer Island Education Fund is a South Carolina–based charitable organization serving K-12 aged students in Micronesia. Habele's initial geographic focus was the so-called "Outer Islands" of Yap State as well as lagoon and outer islands in neighboring Chuuk State in the Federated States of Micronesia. It now serves students of all backgrounds throughout the Freely Associated States.

The Micronesian Games are a quadrennial international multi-sport event within the Micronesian region. The Games were first held in 1969 in Saipan. The 2010 Micronesian Games were initially due to be held in Majuro, until the hosts withdrew. The 2010 Games were hosted by Palau. The Federated States of Micronesia won the bidding to host the 2014 Micronesian Games in Pohnpei State, and later won again against CNMI for the 2018 Micronesian Games to be held in Yap State.

The 8th Micronesian Games were held from July 20 to July 30, 2014, in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).

An independence referendum for Chuuk State to secede from the Federated States of Micronesia was originally scheduled to take place in March 2015. However, it has been delayed three times and it is uncertain if it will take place. The most populous of the four states within the FSM, Chuuk has high levels of unemployment and there are long-standing tensions over the distribution of funding within the FSM. Other concerns include political power within the federation and the preservation of cultural identity.

The Federated States of Micronesia national under-23 football team, nicknamed the Four Stars, is the national U-23 football team representing the Federated States of Micronesia and is controlled by the Federated States of Micronesia Football Association. The team is managed by Australian coach Stan Foster, with the assistant manager Curtis Graham.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Federated States of Micronesia refers to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its members in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The church's first known missionaries arrived on July 5, 1978. As of December 31, 2019, there were 6,107 members in 23 congregations in FSM. The LDS Church has congregations in every state in the FSM.
