The Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) is the apex body of athletics in Pakistan. It was formed in 1951. Major General (R) Muhammad Akram Sahi is the current President. [1]

History

In 1951, the Federation acquired the rights to organize athletics in Pakistan from the IAAF. In 1962, the first elections were held and the body was granted affiliation by the Pakistan Olympic Association. Alvin Robert Cornelius was elected as AFP's first President, while A.U. Zafar was the Federation's its first Secretary.

National Championship

In addition to a regular event at the National Games, AFP organizes National Athletics Championships for men and women in junior, senior, and master categories. [6]

National Athletics Championships

National Athletics Championships are held annually around the month of April and serve as the national championship for the track and field events in Pakistan. The 50th edition will take place in 2021 with 14 teams Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Pakistan Navy, Pakistan WAPDA, Pakistan Railways, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, FATA and Gilgit Baltistan. Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) is the governing body of tennis in Pakistan. It has played a vital role in the development of domestic, national and international tennis in Pakistan, producing a number of young talented players. It also governs teams such as the Pakistan Fed Cup team and the Pakistan Davis Cup team.

Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation National governing body for canoeing and kayaking in Pakistan

The Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation (PCKF) is the official national governing body for canoeing and kayaking Olympic sports in Pakistan. Its function is to promote sporting activities and events for canoe and kayak paddlers across the country on a national and international level. PCKF is a non-profit organisation, which represents all people and organisations with a genuine interest in canoeing, kayaking and associated sports, helping them to increase the profile of these sports across Pakistan.

Pakistan Swimming Federation

The Pakistan Swimming Federation is the governing body of swimming in Pakistan. The Federation was formed in 1948 with its headquarters in Lahore. It has been a member of International Swimming Federation (FINA) since 1948, and was one of the founding members of the Asian Amateur Swimming Federation in 1978.

Pakistan Badminton Federation

The Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) is the governing body for the sport of badminton in Pakistan. It was formed in 1953 to promote badminton in country. Nawab Iftikhar Mamdot became the first President and Sultan F. Hussain was the first Secretary General of the Federation.

The Ski Federation of Pakistan is the national governing body to develop and promote the sport of skiing in Pakistan. The federation was formed in December 1990.

The National Rifle Association of Pakistan is the governing body to develop and promote the sport of shooting in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Sailing Federation is the national governing body of the sport of sailing in Pakistan. Affiliated with World Sailing and the Asian Sailing Federation, it has its headquarters at the National Sailing Centre in Clifton, Karachi.

Pakistan Archery Federation

The Pakistan Archery Federation is the governing body to develop and promote the game of archery in Pakistan. It is based in Lahore, Pakistan, and was founded in 1996. It was admitted into the World Archery Federation in 2005.

Chess Federation of Pakistan

The Chess Federation of Pakistan is national governing body to promote and develop chess in Pakistan. It was established in 1957, and joined FIDE in 1973.

Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation

The Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation (PBBF) is responsible for the promotion and growth of the game of bodybuilding in Pakistan.

Equestrian Federation of Pakistan

The Equestrian Federation of Pakistan (EFP) is the national governing body to promote and develop equestrian sports in Pakistan.

Alpine Club of Pakistan

The Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) is a non governmental sports organisation for the promotion of mountaineering, climbing and other mountain-related adventure activities in Pakistan. In addition to this, the club serves as the national sports governing body for the sport of mountaineering and climbing in Pakistan.

Athletics in Pakistan is overseen by the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) organizes athletic tournaments in Pakistan. Pakistani athletes compete in various athletic events. Some Pakistani athletes have excelled in various events in the distant past including Abdul Khaliq, Ghulam Raziq, Mubarak Shah, John Permal, Muhammad Talib, Ahmed Sajjad Cheema, Abid Hussain, Arshad Saleem, Ali Kamani and Nawaz, Mohammad Alam, and Muhammad Younis are some of the athletes who got prominence at either Asian or International levels, or both, winning gold medals for Pakistan. In the early decades, Pakistanis held many Asian records including the Asian 100 m and 200 m record held by Abdul Khaliq. Pakistani female athletes have also represented Pakistan at international level, such as Shabana Akhtar, who was the first Pakistani female athlete to participate at the Olympics. International events such as the Lahore Marathon take place in the country. There have been many Pakistani records in athletics.

Najma Parveen is a Pakistani sprinter. She represented Pakistan at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. As of July 2021, she is the national record holder in 200m, 400m and 400m hurdles

Pakistani Athletics Championships

The National Athletics Championships of Pakistan is an annual outdoor track and field competition organized by the Athletics Federation of Pakistan, which serves as the national championship for the sport in Pakistan. The championship is held normally in the month of April.
