The Nepal Athletics Association (NAA) is the national governing body for Athletics sport in Nepal, and is responsible for conducting competitions in the country. It is affiliated to World Athletics and Asian Athletics Association (AAA).
It was formerly called as Nepal Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA). Nepal Athletics Association (NAA) organized 16th edition of Asian Cross Country Championship. [1] [2]

The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every fourth year among athletes from all over Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India in 1951, until the 1978 Games. Since the 1982 Games, they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation. The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.
Cross country running is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain such as dirt or grass. The course, typically 3–12 kilometres (1.9–7.5 mi) long, may include surfaces of grass and earth, pass through woodlands and open country, and include hills, flat ground and sometimes gravel road and minor obstacles. It is both an individual and a team sport; runners are judged on individual times and teams by a points-scoring method. Both men and women of all ages compete in cross country, which usually takes place during autumn and winter, and can include weather conditions of rain, sleet, snow or hail, and a wide range of temperatures.
The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) is an association of Christian universities, colleges, and Bible colleges in the United States and Canada whose mission is "the promotion and enhancement of intercollegiate athletic competition with a Christian perspective". The national headquarters is located in Greenville, South Carolina. The NCCAA was formed in 1968. For the 2023–2024 season, the NCCAA listed 92 members, 53 of which participate in Division I and 39 in Division II. Many teams in the NCCAA are also in other athletic associations, including NCAA, NAIA, and ACCA.
The Nepal national football team represents Nepal in International men's football, and is governed by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). A member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Nepali football team plays their home games at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu.
Ahmad Hassan Abdullah is a long-distance and cross country runner, now representing Qatar after his switch from Kenya in 2003. Other runners who have made the same switch include Saif Saeed Shaheen.
South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) is an association of the football playing nations in South Asia which is a regional subsidiary of Asian Football Confederation, incorporated in 1997. The members of the association are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Jennifer Rhines is an American long-distance runner who competes in track, cross country and road running events. She has competed in three different Summer Olympics and made 15 US Teams.
José Carlos Adán Arias is a retired Spanish long-distance runner who specialized in cross-country running. He was twice a team bronze medallist at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and his highest individual placing was 18th, achieved in 1995. In total, he made twelve appearances at the competition, from 1986 to 2002. He also represented his country at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics, placing 16th in the 10,000 metres, and at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, being eliminated in the 10,000 m heats. He twice competed at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships.
The Asian U20 Athletics Championships are the Asian championships open for those of age according to junior. It is currently organized by the Asian Athletics Association.
The Asian Cross Country Championships is a biennial regional cross country running competition for athletes from Asia. It is organised by the Asian Athletics Association and was first held in 1991 in Fukuoka, Japan. The competition has been held every two years since then, although the 2003 edition was postponed due to political conflicts within the region.
Tejitu Daba Chalchissa is an Ethiopian-born long-distance runner who competes internationally for Bahrain. She competes mainly in cross country and track running events. She won the gold medal over 5000 metres at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships.
In India, the sport of athletics was introduced during the period of the British Raj. The sport is governed at national level by the Athletics Federation of India, which was formed in 1946. Despite its large population, few Indian athletes have won a medal in a global or major championship. This began to change in the 21st century, when Indians started taking greater interest in athletics more generally and improved facilities for the sport began to be built at a local level. At a continental level, it has been among the more successful Asian nations, though some distance behind China and Japan.
The 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships was the 41st edition of the global championships in cross country running, organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations. It was held in Guiyang, China on 28 March. It was the first time that the event was held in China, and the third occasion it took place in Asia. Senior and junior races were held for men and women, with the four races having both a team and individual element.
The Oceania Cross Country Championships are a biennial international cross country running competition. Organised by the Oceania Athletics Association, it is the area championships for the region and participation is for its member federations.
The National sports council of Nepal is the governmental authentic sports organization of Nepal. There are more than 123 sports related association and 6 federation are affiliated under it. It has the motto "sports for the health, sports for the nation". Its falls under Ministry of Youth and Sports. And the minister is official chairman of the council. Current chairman is Hon. Teju Lal Chaudhary whereas vice chairman is Shiva Koirala "Jwala". Tanka Lal Ghising is a member secretary of National Sports Council.
Sports in Nepal comprise both traditional Nepalese and modern international games. Even though there is no exact research and data, the most popular sport in Nepal is cricket followed by football and volleyball. On 23 May 2017, volleyball was also declared as national sport of Nepal. Before 2017, traditional games like dandi biyo and kabbadi were considered as the de facto national games.
The 21st Asian Athletics Championships was held at the Wuhan Sports Center in Wuhan, China from 3–7 June 2015.
The 2017 Asian Athletics Championships was the 22nd edition of the Asian Athletics Championships. It was held from 6 to 9 July 2017 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India. Bhubaneswar was the third Indian city to host Asian Championships. Around 560 athletes from 41 countries attended the event.
