The Nepal Rugby Association (NRA) is the rugby union governing body in Nepal. It is in charge of the Nepal national team. Also among the Union's chief activities are conferences, organising international matches, and educating and training players and officials.

History

The Nepal Rugby Association began on January 21, 1992, and was registered under NSC in 1995. The first general assembly and election occurred on May 14, 2012. After the first general assembly NRA got recognized nationally and spread rapidly its associations across the nation. Nepal organized first ever national tournament in January 2014. [2]

The General Council of Asia Rugby voted Nepal to be awarded as associate membership at its meeting in Bangkok, Thailand in 2014. [3] Consequently, 7s men's and women's teams registered their debut on the world stage in 2015 at the ‘Asia Rugby Development Sevens’ which is held in Chennai, India. After the debut NRA rapidly increased it's affiliation and marketing across Nepal.[ citation needed ]

NRA participated for the 1st time in 2022 Asian Games. [4]

The Singapore women's national rugby union team are a national sporting side that represents Singapore in women's rugby union. They played their first test match in 2006.

Rugby union in China is a growing sport; however, it is still not overly popular. China became affiliated to the International Rugby Board in 1997 and as of 1 July 2019, its women's XV side was ranked 24th and its men's XV side 80th in the world. Neither the women's team nor the men's team has yet qualified for a Women's Rugby World Cup or a men's Rugby World Cup. However, China has hopes of one day hosting the men's event, and World Rugby has indicated it supports taking the event there.

Sompal Kami is a Nepalese professional cricketer. Kami is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He is one of the eleven cricketers to play in Nepal's first ever One Day International (ODI) match, against the Netherlands, in August 2018. In January 2019, he became the first bowler for Nepal to take a five-wicket haul in an ODI. He represents the Nepal Army Club of the National League, Jagdamba Giants of the Nepal Premier League, and New Horizon College, which plays in the SPA Cup.

Aarif Sheikh is a Nepalese cricketer, who has been a former vice-captain of the Nepal under-19 cricket team, and currently plays for the senior team. An all-rounder, Aarif is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium pace bowler. He made his debut against Hong Kong in May 2014.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dipendra Singh Airee</span> Nepalese cricketer

Dipendra Singh Airee is a Nepalese cricketer. In August 2018, he was one of the eleven cricketers to play in Nepal's first-ever One Day International (ODI) match, against the Netherlands. During the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, Airee scored the fastest fifty in T20Is, off just 9 balls, against Mongolia. In April 2024, he became the only third player in T20Is to hit six consecutive sixes in an over, doing it against Qatar in the ACC Premier Cup. He is also dubbed as “The Tiger” for his aggressive batting skills.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rohit Paudel</span> Nepali cricketer

Rohit Kumar Paudel is a Nepalese cricketer and the current captain of the Nepal national cricket team. He made his List A debut for Nepal in the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament on 8 February 2018. He was inspired to play cricket after Nepal played in the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. In January 2019, Kumar became the youngest male cricketer to score an international half-century. The record was broken in February 2020 by his teammate Kushal Malla. He is the all-time highest run scorer for Nepal in the ODI format and the first Nepalese player to score 1,000 runs in ODI cricket. He was named captain of the Nepal cricket team in November 2022.

Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi is a Nepalese cricketer. He made his List A debut for Nepal against Zimbabwe in the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier on 4 March 2018.
