7828 Odney Manor is a Great Western Railway locomotive part of the Manor Class. It is one of 9 locomotives preserved from the class which originally had 30. Built by British Railways in 1950 it was withdrawn from service in 1965 before being moved to Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, South Wales. Since 2004 it has been owned by the West Somerset Railway, being based there since 1995. In 2011 the locomotive was temporarily renamed Norton Manor in honour of the local Marine Base near the West Somerset Railway.
7828 Odney Manor was first sent to Shrewsbury shed and spent nine years there. 1961 saw it move to Croes Newydd, then two years later it found its way to Aberystwyth for a short while before returning to Shrewsbury, from where it was withdrawn in 1965, moving to Barry in 1966. [2] It stayed at Barry for 15 years.
It was rescued from Barry privately in 1981 and moved to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway where restoration was completed by 1987. It worked on the Gwilli Railway, Llangollen Railway and East Lancashire Railway before coming to the West Somerset Railway (WSR) in 1995. Its owners sold it to the WSR in 2004. [2]
On 17 June 2011 it was temporarily renamed Norton Manor after 40 Commando's base alongside the railway at Norton Fitzwarren. Originally, the Great Western Railway had intended to give the name Norton Manor to new locomotive number 7830, but the order for this locomotive was cancelled. 7828 has been repainted in the BR lined green livery and it regained its Odney Manor nameplates. The West Somerset Railway (WSR) is a 22.75-mile (36.6 km) heritage railway line in Somerset, England. The freehold of the line and stations is owned by Somerset Council. The railway is leased to and operated by West Somerset Railway plc, which is supported and minority-owned by the West Somerset Railway Association (WSRA) charitable trust and the West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust (WSRHT). WSR operates services using both heritage steam and diesel trains.
The 4073 or Castle Class are 4-6-0 steam locomotives of the Great Western Railway, built between 1923 and 1950. They were designed by the railway's Chief Mechanical Engineer, Charles Collett, for working the company's express passenger trains. They could reach speeds of up to 100 mph (160 km/h).
The Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway (S&DJR) 7F 2-8-0 is a class of steam locomotive designed for hauling heavy coal and goods trains. Eleven were built in two batches in 1914 and 1925, and were used until withdrawal between 1959 and 1964. Two are preserved.
The Great Western Railway (GWR) 7800 Class or Manor Class is a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotive. They were designed as a lighter version of the Grange Class, giving them a wider Route Availability. Like the 'Granges', the 'Manors' used parts from the GWR 4300 Class Moguls but just on the first batch of twenty. Twenty were built between 1938 and 1939, with British Railways adding a further 10 in 1950. They were named after Manors in the area covered by the Great Western Railway. Nine are preserved.

It was built in 2009 about 1⁄4 mile (0.4 km) north of the site of the old station that served the village of Norton Fitzwarren from 1873 until 1961. There were fatal railway accidents in the vicinity in 1890, 1940 and 1978.

Designed by Charles Collett, it is one of nine of the class to be preserved and is currently based on the Severn Valley Railway.
No.6880 Betton Grange is a steam locomotive which is under construction as a "new-build" project, originally based on the Llangollen Railway in Denbighshire, Wales, then subsequently at Tyseley Locomotive Works. Described as "building the 81st Grange", the project started in 1998, and the locomotive was earlier expected to be operational by 2013, but subsequently by Autumn 2021, which was then pushed back to 2024. It was expected to be launched under steam in a private member event in January 2024 but was postponed a week before the event. All of the original GWR 6800 Class Grange locomotives were withdrawn for scrap by the end of 1965; this project is a creation, from an assemblage of original GWR and newly manufactured components, of a member of this class.
