Garland Christian Academy was established in 1971 by Lavon Drive Baptist Church with the mission of providing a Christ-centered education for families in the Garland area.[2] The academy began with a small student body and has since expanded to include a full K3–12 program. Over the years, the campus has grown to accommodate classrooms for all grade levels, fine arts facilities, and athletic spaces.
Academics
GCA follows a college-preparatory curriculum that integrates biblical instruction with core academic subjects. The school is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International and emphasizes academic excellence within a Christian worldview.[3] Students have opportunities for advanced coursework, fine arts involvement, and leadership development throughout their studies.
Athletics and Activities
Garland Christian Academy participates in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAAPS) athletic conference. Students compete in sports including basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track.[4] The school’s athletic program is frequently featured in regional coverage for its competitive teams.[5][6]
Affiliation
The academy is a ministry of Lavon Drive Baptist Church, which has served the Garland community since 1961. The partnership between the church and academy supports the school’s mission to educate students spiritually, academically, and socially in a Christian environment.[7]
Launchpad Learning Center
In addition to its K3–12 academic program, Lavon Drive Baptist Church also operates the Launchpad Learning Center, a licensed early childhood and after-school program. Launchpad serves children from 8 weeks old through 6th grade, providing childcare and educational enrichment in a Christian setting.[8]
Campus
The school’s campus is located on Lavon Drive in Garland, near the President George Bush Turnpike and Downtown Garland. The facilities include academic buildings, science and computer labs, athletic fields, and a multipurpose auditorium used for chapel services, performances, and assemblies.[9]
Lavon Drive Baptist Church voted to establish the school in 1971 and the school opened in August 1972 with 12 teachers and 136 students. It initially had Kindergarten through 6th grade. Grades 7-11 opened in 1973 and grade 12 opened in 1974.[12]
