Gilbertolus is a genus of dogtooth characins from northwestern South America, restricted to the Atrato, Magdalena and Maracaibo basins.
There are currently three described species in this genus. [1]
Mentha, also known as mint, is a genus of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae. It is estimated that 13 to 24 species exist, but the exact distinction between species is unclear. Hybridization occurs naturally where some species' ranges overlap. Many hybrids and cultivars are known.
The flagtails are a family (Kuhliidae) of centrarchiform ray-finned fish of the Indo-Pacific area. The family consists of about 12 species in one genus, Kuhlia. Most are euryhaline and often found in brackish water, but the genus also includes species restricted to marine or fresh water.
Polyipnus is a genus of oceanic ray-finned fish in the family Sternoptychidae. This is the largest genus of the marine hatchetfishes subfamily Sternoptychinae and indeed of the entire Sternoptychidae. It is not quite as apomorphic as their relatives; it may be that the genus is actually a paraphyletic assemblage of less advanced Sternoptychinae and would need to be split.
Cordylancistrus is a genus of suckermouth armored catfish native to South America. It is much the same as Chaetostoma. The few differences are a wider head, longer cheek odontodes, and plates on the snout. Cordylancistrus can be found in rivers and streams high in the Andes, from Venezuela to Colombia.
Echidna is a genus of moray eels in the family Muraenidae.
Pseudochromis is a genus of fish in the family Pseudochromidae found in Indian and Pacific Ocean.
Spatuloricaria is a genus of armored catfishes native to South America and Panama.
Atrina is a cosmopolitan genus of bivalve molluscs belonging to the family Pinnidae.
Cetopsorhamdia is a genus of three-barbeled catfishes native to South America.
Chaetostoma, also known as the bristlemouth catfish, is a genus of suckermouth armored catfishes native to South America with one species, C. fischeri, extending into Panama. Most species inhabit flowing rivers in the lower Andes and its foothills. Some species are kept in unheated aquaria.
Apteronotus is a genus of weakly electric knifefish in the family Apteronotidae, distinguished by the presence of a tiny tail fin. This genus is restricted to tropical and subtropical South America and Panama where found in a wide range of freshwater habitats. They feed on small animals.
Spratelloides is a genus of fish in the family Spratelloididae. They are small fish used as fishing bait, especially in skipjack tuna-fishing. Some species are also valued as food in certain countries, like Spratelloides gracilis, known as kibinago in Japan.
Cirripectes is a large genus of combtooth blennies found throughout the Pacific and Indian oceans. Cirripectes biconvexus, an otolith based fossil species from the Burdigalian (Miocene) of southwestern India is probably the earliest record of this genus.
Bentonyx is an extinct genus of rhynchosaur from the middle Triassic epoch of Devon in England. Its fossil, a well preserved skull, BRSUG 27200, was discovered in Otter Sandstone Formation and was first assigned to Rhynchosaurus spenceri, that is known from 25 specimens. This species was reassigned to its own genus, Fodonyx, that was first described by David W. E. Hone and Michael Benton in 2008. More recently, this skull was reassigned to this genus by Max C. Langer, Felipe C. Montefeltro, David E. Hone, Robin Whatley and Cesar L. Schultz in 2010 and the type species is Bentonyx sidensis.
Kaupichthys is a genus of eels in the family Chlopsidae.
Synchiropus is a genus of fish in the family Callionymidae found mainly in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region.
Phoxocampus is a genus of pipefishes native to the Indian and Pacific Oceans, with these currently recognized species:
Cirrhitops is a genus of marine ray-finned fish, hawkfishes from the family Cirrhitidae. They are found on tropical reefs of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
Chalixodytes is a genus of sandburrowers native to the Indian and the Pacific oceans.
Trimmatom is a genus of gobies native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean.
