Global Broadcast News (GBN) is an India media corporation under the Network 18 umbrella. The major shareholders apart from the Indian public and foreign and domestic institutions are parent company Network 18, sister company TV18 and a group of professionals including Joint Managing Directors Sameer Manchanda & Haresh Chawla. [1] Manchanda left NDTV to start the company in collaboration with TV18 of which Chawla is CEO.

Global Broadcast News listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India on 8 February 2007 at a significant premium to its issue price. [2]

IBN (India Broadcast News)

IBN is the brand name for Global Broadcast News' 24-hour television news stations distributed via cable and DTH. Current IBN offerings include:

  1. CNN-IBN (English) - A joint venture of Turner Broadcasting and Global Broadcast News which runs the Indian edition of CNN.
  2. IBN-7 (Hindi) - formerly Channel 7 was acquired from Jagran TV, owned by the Dainik Jagran group of companies, in 2006 and rebranded IBN-7.
  3. The company has launched its first regional channel, IBN-Lokmat, a Marathi news channel, headed by Nikhil Wagle. The channel is a 50:50 venture between GBN and Lokmat group.

JV with Viacom

On 21 May 2007, American media giant Viacom entered into a 50-50 joint venture with Global Broadcast News to form Viacom 18, which would house Viacom's existing channels in India - MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon as well as Network 18's movie business. All future Viacom content for India and new ventures such as a Hindi entertainment channel and a Hindi movie channel would be housed in this JV. GEC Colors to be launched was announced by Viacom-18. [3] The channel was launched on 21 July 2008.

Fox Networks Group Asia Pacific Limited is a Hong Kong-based commercial broadcasting company which is a part of Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International's Fox Networks Group, operating multiple specialty television channels. It was previously traded as Star TV until 2001, and simply as Star until 2009. Originally established by Hutchison Whampoa and later acquired by the original News Corporation, Star TV was once the prominent satellite television broadcaster in the entire Asia region. On March 20, 2019 Following Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox's entertainment assets, FNG Asia and Star India, became a part of Disney and the FNG Asia Pacific was integrated into Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer and International unit.

Rajdeep Sardesai Indian journalist and news presenter

Rajdeep Sardesai is an Indian news anchor and author. He is a consulting editor at the India Today group, and hosts the 9:00 p.m prime time show on India Today Television. He was the Editor-in-Chief of Global Broadcast News, that included CNN-IBN, IBN7 and IBN-Lokmat; he resigned in July 2014.

Network18 Media & Investments Limited, informally referred to as the Network18 Group, is an Indian media and entertainment group. The group was founded and majority owned by Raghav Bahl in 1993, after India liberalised its economy and media ownership laws in early 1990s. In the 2000s, the Group grew into one of the largest collection of media properties in India through debt financing and international licensing deals with global media brands. By late 2011, according to a LiveMint article, the Network18 group had amassed a large debt, was running in loss and banks were unwilling to lend the group additional capital. Bahl's Network18 group sought capital from the Reliance Industries Ltd in 2012, then closed loss-making ventures, laid off employees, and trimmed the size of the Group over the next two years. On May 29, 2014, under the terms of its 2012 financing, the Reliance Industries Limited group took over the Network18 empire to integrate it with its 4G, Jio wireless content-distribution strategy. The Group's leadership team is headed by chairperson Adil Zainulbhai and managing director Rahul Joshi in 2019.

Raghav Bahl Indian businessman

Raghav Bahl is an Indian businessman, a serial entrepreneur, and an investor best known for his past ownership of several television channels, including TV18 India. He was the Founding/Controlling shareholder & Managing Director of Network18 Group, a media group that he started in 1993 and grew into one of the largest collection of media properties in India. At its peak, the group controlled by Raghav Bahl included media and internet-based media outlets such as in.com, IBNlive.com, Moneycontrol.com, Firstpost.com, Cricketnext, Homeshop18, bookmyshow.com, Forbes India, TV channels such as Colors and some in partnership with international media groups such as NBC TV18, CNN-IBN, IBN7, MTV, and CNBC Awaaz. By late 2011, according to a LiveMint article, Bahl's media group had a large debt, was running in loss and banks were unwilling to lend the group additional capital. Bahl's group sought capital from the Reliance Industries Ltd in 2012, and two years later Reliance took over the media empire and Bahl left the Network18 group on May 29 2014. After departing from the Network18 group, Bahl co-founded Quintillion Media Pvt Ltd with his wife Ritu Kapur. This media group controls Thequint.com. Bahl's new venture entered a joint venture agreement with Bloomberg L.P. to launch BloombergQuint in 2016.
