Shop CJ is an Indian Hindi language pay televsion shopping channel owned by Skyblue Buildwell Pvt. Ltd and CJ Group. Its programming consists of showcasing various products which viewers can purchase either by telephone or internet.

History

Star CJ Alive was launched in September 2009 by Star TV and CJ Group as six-hour programming block on Star Utsav for hosting the television marketing programs in six-hour slots in its initial stage of its launch. The following year on 1 August 2010, it was launched as full fleged channel after a successful period as programming block in order to celebrate the channel 1st anniversary. [1] [2] In February 2011, Star CJ launched their first online shopping mall. [3]

In August 2012, Business Line of The Hindu group reported that Star CJ Alive was claiming average sale of products worth Rs. 9.5 million on week days and Rs. 12 million on weekends. [4] Approximately 65% of the sales come from electronics segment while household segment stands second in the race. In December 2012, some sections of the media reported that Rupert Murdoch run Star India may exit Star CJ by selling its entire stake to Providence Equity Partners. [5] This share transfer reportedly ran into trouble when the Department of Revenue discovered that funds from other jurisdictions were being channelised to exploit Indo Mauritius double taxation avoidance agreement. [6] On 2 June 2014, Star India officially their sold 50% share in Star CJ to Providence Equity Partners with CJ Group keeping their 50% share. This marked Star India's exit from online shopping market in India. [7] [8] [9]

On 26 June 2014 Star CJ announced they were look to USD 1 million to invest launching a mobile app with and a new warehouse managing system with a view to tap the growing demand and they were looking in the future to launch an initial public offering (IPO) by 2023. [10] [11]

On 16 April 2015, Star CJ Alive was renamed Shop CJ, after Star sold their 50% share in 2014 to Providence Equity Partners. [12] [13]

On 23 June 2017, it was reported that Network18 Group was in talks with Providence and CJ Group to acquire Shop CJ. [14] On 17 September 2018, it was annouced that Network18 Group were going to acquire Shop CJ from Providence Equity Partners and CJ Group making it a sister channel of Home Shop 18. [15] [16] The deal being completed on 16 February 2018, with Network18 Group having 74% share with CJ Group retaining 26% share. [17]

On 6 June 2019, Shop CJ became a subsidiary of Skyblue Buildwell after Network18 Group sold their 74% to Skyblue after they sold Home Shop 18 to them. [18]
