The Gokongwei College of Engineering of De La Salle University is one of eight colleges that comprise the University. It was established in 1947 with the aim of providing young men who are knowledgeable in science and technology to help rehabilitate the Philippines, which was then devastated in the aftermath of World War II.[2]
Through the College of Engineering, the university has been selected by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to be part of the Southeast Asian Engineering Education Network (SEED-Net), the only Philippine private university in the network.[3]
The College was renamed in 2011 after its donor, the Filipino-Chinese tycoon John Gokongwei.[4]
Academic departments
The College's academic programs are distributed among six academic departments.
Chemical Engineering
The Chemical Engineering Department currently handles the University's Bachelor of Science program in Chemical Engineering. This course has been offered continuously by the University since 1947. The department also offers specialization sub-areas in: Industrial Process Control, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Energy Engineering, and Corrosion Engineering.
The Mechanical Engineering Department offers programs in the fields of Mechatronics, Mechanical Design, and Energy and Environmental Technology. It is a CHED-recognized Center of Excellence.
Computer Engineering
Computer Engineering is a combination of elements of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, which deals with the design, and utilization of computers. The parent discipline of Computer Engineering is Electrical Engineering with which it shares considerable commonality. Computer Engineering seeks to match efficient digital devices with appropriate software to meet the scientific, technological and administrative needs of business and industry in a global economy. The program provides students with a background that prepares them for careers in embedded systems design, computer system operations, and systems support.
A Bachelor of Engineering (BE or BEngg) or a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc (Engg) or BSE) is an undergraduate academic degree awarded to a student after three to five years of studying engineering at an accredited college or university.

The College of Computer Studies (CCS) is one of the eight colleges of De La Salle University. It was established in 1981 as the Center for Planning, Information, and Computer Science offering only a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. The department was formally declared as a college in 1984. In 1990, the college was transferred to its new building, the INTELLECT Building, which was eventually renamed as the Gokongwei Building. In 1996 the college was granted semi-autonomous status along with the Graduate School of Business which led to the establishment of De La Salle-Professional Schools, Inc. The college became a part of De La Salle Professional Schools but later transferred back to the university.
The College of Science (COS) of De La Salle University was originally part of the College of Arts and Sciences. In 1982, the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics separated to form the College of Science while the liberal arts departments formed the College of Liberal Arts. Although the College of Science is the youngest and the second smallest college formed in the university, its contribution to the academe and to the country has had tremendous impact to scientific research development and nation-building. And thus in recognition of their efforts, all of the Science and Mathematics programs of the college have been granted the recognition of Center of Excellence in the Philippines by the Commission on Higher Education.
