Jerome Dunstan "Jerry" Travers was one of the leading amateur golfers of the early 20th century. He won the U.S. Amateur in 1907, 1908, 1912 and 1913, the New Jersey Amateur three times, and the Metropolitan Amateur five times. He was regarded as one of the finest match play golfers of his time and had a famous rivalry with Walter Travis. He won the 1915 U.S. Open.

It is a generalist golf publication covering recreational golf and men's and women's competitive golf. The magazine started by John F. Barnett in 1950 in Chicago, moved to Connecticut in 1964 and was sold to The New York Times Company in 1969. The Times company sold their magazine division to Condé Nast in 2001. The headquarters of Golf Digest is in New York City relocated from Connecticut. On May 13, 2019, Discovery, Inc. acquired Golf Digest from Condé Nast, in order to integrate with GolfTV.

Sport in Jersey Games participation

In its own right Jersey participates in the Commonwealth Games and in the bi-annual Island Games, which it last hosted in 2015. Jersey is a founder member of the Island Games Association and has participated in every Games since the first in 1985. Jersey first competed in 1958 in the British Empire and Commonwealth Games and has since participated in every staging of what became the Commonwealth Games. Youth sports participation includes the Commonwealth Youth Games and Jeux des Isles.

1997 Island Games

The 1997 Island Games were the seventh Island Games, and were held in Jersey, from June 28, to July, 4 1997.

Tom Vardon

Thomas Alfred Vardon was a professional golfer from Jersey, Channel Islands, and the brother of golfer Harry Vardon, whom he sometimes played against professionally. From 1892 to 1909 he played in 18 Open Championships, finishing in the top-10 nine times. His best was a second-place finish to his brother Harry in 1903 at Prestwick, and other placings were 1897 at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake – 8th, 1902 at Hoylake – 5th, 1904 at Royal St George's Golf Club, Sandwich, Kent – 4th, 1907 at Hoylake – T3.

Golf competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto was held from July 16 to 19 at the Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham. A total three golf events were held: a singles event for men and women, along with a mixed team event. Golf made its debut at the Pan American Games, after the sport was added to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

2015 Island Games

The XVI Island Games was held in Jersey, Channel Islands, from 27 June to 3 July 2015. This was the second time that the island has hosted the games, the first being in 1997.

The XVII Island Games was held in Gotland, Sweden, from 24 June to 30 June 2017. This was the second time that the island has hosted the games, the first being in 1999.

Willie Dunn (golfer)

William Dunn, Jr. was an English professional golfer and golf course designer of Scottish descent. Dunn was born in Blackheath, London, England in about 1864. His best U.S. Open finish was second in the 1895 U.S. Open. He took home $100 as his share of the purse. His best known golf course designs are those found at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club and the Apawamis Club.

Golf at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1969 when the sport was included as one of fifteen sports at the Third South Pacific Games held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Men's and women's tournaments are contested by teams of four golfers per country, and medals are awarded for individual and team winners. Golf has also been included in many of the Pacific Mini Games, starting with the second edition held at Rarotonga in 1985.

Trump National Golf Club, Washington, D.C. is an 800-acre (1.3 sq mi) private golf club in the eastern United States, at Lowes Island in Potomac Falls, Virginia, northwest of Washington, D.C.

Golf at the Island Games, the biennial multi-sports event for island nations, territories and dependencies, was first played in 1991 with the Ladies competitions starting in 1997. It has now become a regular sport in the Island Games.

Isaac Mackie

Isaac S. Mackie was a Scottish-American professional golfer who played in the late 19th and early 20th century. He apprenticed as a club maker under George Forrester. Following his brother Jack—who had emigrated to the United States in 1899—Mackie also made the trans-Atlantic journey in 1901. He took a job as professional at Fox Hills Golf Club on Staten Island soon after his arrival and remained in that post until 1914. In 1916, he was appointed the head professional at Canoe Brook Country Club, replacing Louis Tellier. In 1953 he was the head professional at Netherwood Golf Club in North Plainfield, New Jersey.

"The River of Blood" is a monument located on a golf course on Lowes Island, Virginia owned by Donald Trump. A plaque signed with Trump's name states that the monument marks what Trump claims is an American Civil War battle site having significant casualties, although no listed battle nor publicly disclosed event with any recorded casualties took place at the site.
