The XV Island Games (also known as the 2013 NatWest Island Games for sponsorship reasons) [1] were held in Bermuda from 13 to 19 July 2013. [2] Bermuda was selected to host the Games by default after Prince Edward Island withdrew from the International Island Games Association.

It was the first time that the Games were held outside Europe. [3]

Participating islands

22 island entities of the IIGA from Europe, South Atlantic and the Caribbean area competed in these games. [4] Rhodes and Sark declined invitations to the Games. [5]

Competitor teams each represent different island communities which are IIGA members. The athletics competition at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games took place at the Estadio Pedro de Heredia in Cartagena, Colombia and lasted from July 25 to July 29. There were 23 events for men and 21 for women. A total of ten Games records were broken at the competition, in addition to a number of national records.

The 2013 Games of the Small States of Europe, also known as the XV Games of the Small States of Europe, were held in Luxembourg City and surrounding areas. The slogan, as well as the logo, was "Are you ready for the Games?" The opening ceremony was held at the Stade Josy Barthel on 27 May; the closing ceremony was held at the Neimënster Abbey on 1 June.

The XIII Island Games were held in Åland, Finland, June 27-July 4, 2009. For the 13th edition of the Games, 25 teams competed in 14 different sports.

The 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, officially known as the VI Commonwealth Youth Games, and commonly known as Bahamas 2017, or Nassau 2017, was the sixth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games which started in 2000. The games were held from 19 to 23 July 2017 in Nassau, Bahamas. 64 nations participated at the games. The Bahamas 2017 was the largest international sporting event ever to be hosted in The Bahamas, and the largest-ever edition of the Youth Games, with up to 1300 athletes. During the opening ceremony the Prime Minister of the Bahamas Hubert Minnis declared the games officially open. It was the first the time that the tournament was opened by a prime minister instead of a monarch or a president.

The VII South Pacific Mini Games were held July 25-August 4, 2005 in Palau.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2013 National Games of China</span>

The 12th National Games of China were held in the northeastern province of Liaoning from 31 August to 12 September 2013. Liaoning was the sixth provincial level host of the games, following Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shandong. A total of 350 events in 31 sports were held at the games.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2008 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics</span> International athletics championship event

The 2008 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics were held at the Estadio Pedro Grajales in Cali, Colombia between 4–6 July 2008. A total of 44 events were contested, of which 22 by male and 22 by female athletes. During the three-day competition, six championship records were broken. The competition took place at almost 1000 m above sea level, a factor which helps athletic performance in some events.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Athletics at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games</span> International athletics championship event

The athletics competition at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games was held at the Mayagüez Athletics Stadium in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico from July 24–30. A total of 47 events were contested, 24 by men and 23 by women, and 12 Games records were set. Also, 3 national records were set. Of the twenty-three nations that won a medal in the competition, Jamaica was the most successful, topping the table with ten golds and an overall haul of 25 medals. Mexico and Colombia were the next best performers, with seven and six golds, respectively. The hosts were fourth in the rankings with four golds and sixteen medals in all.

The XIV Island Games were a major international multi-sport event held from 25 June to 1 July 2011, in the Isle of Wight, England. A total of 2,306 athletes from 24 islands competed in 15 sports and 190 events. The 2011 Island Games were the second Island Games to be hosted by the Isle of Wight. Previously, the Isle of Wight hosted the 1993 Island Games.

Volleyball, for the 2013 Island Games, took place at the Berkeley Institute and the Cedarbridge Academy. This event took place from 14 to 19 July 2013.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rannvá Andreasen</span> Faroese footballer

Rannvá Biskopstø Andreasen is a Faroese football forward for KÍ Klaksvík of the Faroese 1. deild kvinnur. Since 2004, she has represented the Faroe Islands women's national football team at senior international level. She is the national team's all-time record goalscorer, inclusive of both male and female players.

The XVI Island Games were held in Jersey, Channel Islands, from 27 June to 3 July 2015. This was the second time the island hosted the games, the first being in 1997.

The XVII Island Games were held in Gotland, Sweden, from 24 to 30 June 2017. This was the second time that the island hosted the Games, the first being in 1999.

The 2017 Pacific Mini Games were held in Port Vila, Vanuatu, in December 2017. It was the tenth edition of the Pacific Mini Games, and the second to be hosted in Vanuatu.

The XVIII Island Games were held in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar between 6 and 12 July 2019. This was the second time the territory hosted the Games, the first being in 1995.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Island Games</span> Multi-sports competition

The XIX Island Games were to have been held in Guernsey in 2021; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Games were postponed. This occasion will be the third time that the island would host the games, the first being in 1987, and the second in 2003.
