Chula Vista is so named because of its scenic location between the San Diego Bay and coastal mountain foothills.

The Vogue Theater is a historic movie theater in downtown Chula Vista,California. It was designed by the Architect Frank Hope Jr. in 1943,and opened on January 19,1945. The theater is a poured in place concrete building and seats 825. Due to its configuration and stage,the theater has been a venue for several Chula Vista and San Diego political debates by the likes of former San Diego City Mayor Roger Hedgecock,and current Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox.
Rapid is the brand name given to the bus rapid transit system in San Diego County,California. The system serves nearly half the county,operating mainly on the HOV lanes on Interstates 15 and 805,with most of the stops also served by other routes. In addition,there are stations,dubbed as CenterLine in the medians of Interstate 15,Park Boulevard in San Diego and on East Palomar Street in Chula Vista,that are designed in a similar manner to the light rail stations. The system operates with a dedicated fleet,although buses from the Mainline fleet are regularly substituted. The system is administered,built and managed by San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and is operated as part of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS).

Gómez is a Democrat,though city council positions are officially nonpartisan per California state law. In December 2018,Gómez was unanimously appointed president of the city council. Gómez was a candidate for California's 53rd congressional district in the 2020 elections,losing to fellow Democrat Sara Jacobs.
