Greg Cox is an American politician and businessman from San Diego,California. He served as a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors for District 1 from 1995-2020. [3] He is a member of the Republican Party,but has also been endorsed by prominent local Democratic politicians. [4] He was not eligible to run in the 2020 election due to term limits. [5] He was succeeded by Democrat Nora Vargas. [6]
Cox served as mayor of Chula Vista,California from 1981 until 1990. [7] [8] He was investigated in 1997 by the state Fair Political Practices Commission for failing to include a $2.2 million commercial Home Federal Savings loan in his interest disclosure;he admitted making an "oversight",but was eventually cleared by the Commission of any wrongdoing. [9] [10] After his resignation in 1990,he worked as Director for Local Government in the state Office of Planning and Research. [7]
As County Supervisor,he has voted to fund a number of regional construction projects and programs intended to address homelessness in the county. [11] He was the sole dissenter in a 2018 Board of Supervisors vote siding with the administration of President Donald Trump against California's sanctuary state law,Senate Bill 54;Cox called the vote a waste of money,and expressed the concern that it could increase distrust of law enforcement. [12] [13] In 2016,he reported himself to a watchdog group and paid a $3,000 fine after realizing he had failed to disclose a conflict of interest relating to a vote on a permit for SeaWorld San Diego,in which his wife,Cheryl Cox—also a former mayor of Chula Vista—held stock. [14] In campaigns,he has stressed his support for the development project in the Chula Vista Bayfront,for law enforcement,and for environmental protection regulations. [15]
Cox's constituency,District 1,includes the cities of Coronado,Imperial Beach,Chula Vista,National City and communities within San Diego including Barrio Logan,Chollas View,Grant Hill,La Playa,Lincoln Park,Logan Heights,Memorial,Mount Hope,Mountain View,Nestor,Otay Mesa,Palm City,Point Loma,San Ysidro,Shelltown,Sherman Heights,Southcrest,Stockton,Sunset Cliffs and parts of downtown San Diego. The district also includes the unincorporated communities of Bonita,Sunnyside,Lincoln Acres,and East Otay Mesa. [4] [16]
Cox is the incumbent president of the National Association of Counties,a nonprofit organization that represents county governments in federal affairs. [17] [18] In this role,he has focused on helping counties improving services for constituents. [19] As president of the NACo,he is advised by consultant and former San Diego County administrator Walt Ekard,at the expense of San Diego County. [19] Cox is also a former president of the California State Association of Counties and League of California Cities. [17] [15]

She was elected Mayor of the city of Chula Vista in 2014.

From 1994 to 2002,he served two terms on the city council of Chula Vista,California. He served as Mayor of Chula Vista from 2002 to 2006 and as a member of the California Coastal Commission from 2005 to 2007,and again since 2017. He served as a member of the Board of Port Commissioners of the Unified Port of San Diego,as Board Secretary and Vice Chairman-Elect from 2009 to 2011. In 2016,he was again elected to the Chula Vista City Council.

The Vogue Theater is a historic movie theater in downtown Chula Vista,California. It was designed by the Architect Frank Hope Jr. in 1943,and opened on January 19,1945. The theater is a poured in place concrete building and seats 825. Due to its configuration and stage,the theater has been a venue for several Chula Vista and San Diego political debates by the likes of former San Diego City Mayor Roger Hedgecock,and current Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox.
Rapid is the brand name given to the bus rapid transit system in San Diego County,California. The system serves nearly half the county,operating mainly on the HOV lanes on Interstates 15 and 805,with most of the stops also served by other routes. In addition,there are stations,dubbed as CenterLine in the medians of Interstate 15,Park Boulevard in San Diego and on East Palomar Street in Chula Vista,that are designed in a similar manner to the light rail stations. The system operates with a dedicated fleet,although buses from the Mainline fleet are regularly substituted. The system is administered,built and managed by San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and is operated as part of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS).

It provides legal assistance to individuals charged with a crime in state court who are financially unable to retain private counsel. Georgette Gómez is an American politician and community activist. She served as a member of the San Diego City Council from 2016 to 2020. Gómez is a Democrat,though city council positions are officially nonpartisan per California state law. In December 2018,Gómez was unanimously appointed president of the city council. Gómez was a candidate for California's 53rd congressional district in the 2020 elections,losing to fellow Democrat Sara Jacobs.

Nora E. Vargas is an American politician serving as a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors from District 1 since 2021. She was elected Chair on January 10,2023. She is the first immigrant and first Latina elected to the body.
