Hierodoris stella is a species of moth in the family Oecophoridae. This species is endemic to New Zealand and occurs in Auckland, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty and Wellington. As at 2005 the larvae of this species is unknown as is its host plant. The adult moth frequents forest and are on the wing in January and February. It is classified as "At Risk, Relict'" by the Department of Conservation.
This species was first described by Edward Meyrick in 1914 using a specimen collected at Kauri Gully, Auckland by Stella Hudson and named Coridomorpha stella. [3] [4] George Hudson illustrated and discussed the species in his 1928 book The Butterflies and Moths of New Zealand. [5] In 2005 Robert J. B. Hoare placed this species within the genus Hierodoris. [6] The type specimen of this species is held at the Natural History Museum, London. [4]
Meyrick described the species as follows: [3]
♀︎. 18 mm. Head and thorax dark fuscous, with shining light-greenish reflections. Palpi dark bronzy-fuscous, suffused with ochreous-whitish towards base and apex. Antennae fuscous basal half dark purple-fuscous, above middle with a pale-ochreous band. Abdomen dark fuscous, segmental margins somewhat mixed with purple-bluish. Forewings elongate-triangular, costa anteriorly nearly straight, posteriorly gently arched, apex obtuse, termen rounded, little oblique; dark purplish-fuscous, irregularly irrorated with pale-greenish scales : cilia purplish-fuscous, towards base darker. Hindwings dark fuscous; a dull ochreous-orange streak through disc from near base to 2⁄3, extremity enlarged; a fine pale ochreous-orange suffused submedian streak obscurely indicated : cilia whitish-ochreous, with dark-fuscous basal line. This species is endemic to New Zealand. [2] It occurs in Auckland, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty and Wellington. [6] [7] This species has been collected at Kauri Glen Reserve in Northcote and in Karori. [5]
The larvae of this species is unknown as is much of the biology of this species. [6] The adults of this species are on the wing in January and February. [5] George Hudson noted that the female moth appeared to mimic a bug when at rest or walking. [5] The antennae of the moth as well as its posture when at rest makes it appear like a Romna capsoides . [6] It has been hypothesised that this is protective mimicry for the moth as the bug it imitates has an objectionable taste and odour. [5]

This moth is classified under the New Zealand Threat Classification system as being "At Risk, Relict". [1]

Hierodoris electrica is a moth of the family Oecophoridae. It was described by Edward Meyrick in 1889. It is endemic to New Zealand, where it has been reported from the northern and southern parts of the South Island. The larva of H. electrica has yet to be described. The wingspan is between 15 and 16.5 mm. The ground colour of the forewings is dark brown, with narrow yellow scales overlaying this base colour. The hindwings are brown. The known larval host species is Olearia nummulariifolia.

The twigs had evidence of oviposition scars of cicadas and the larvae were collected in October after reddish-brown frass indicated their location within the twigs.

Hierodoris callispora is a moth of the family Oecophoridae. It is endemic to New Zealand and can be found throughout the country from south of the Bay of Plenty. This species inhabits native beech forest. Adults of the species have been found where Muehlenbeckia is common. Adults have also been collected from the flowers of Kunzea ericoides. However the larval host is unconfirmed although it has been hypothesised that larvae of this species feed on Kunzea ericoides flowers. Adults of this species can be distinguished by its orange ruff that contrasts with its dark head and thorax. There is a colour form that exists that has orange scales and an orange coloured fringe on the hindwing. Adults have been collected in December and January and are day flying but are also attracted to light at night. A female specimen has been found with a larva in her oviduct suggesting that this species may give birth to larval young.
Tingena apanthes is a species of moth in the family Oecophoridae. It is endemic to New Zealand and found on the North Island. The adults are on the wing from October to December. It appears associated with Leptospermum species and it has been hypothesised that the appearance of the adults of this species imitates faded Leptospermum leaves.
Trachypepla importuna is a moth of the family Oecophoridae and was first described by Edward Meyrick in 1927. This moth is thought to have been introduced to New Zealand, but is presumed to be native to Australia. T. importuna has been collected in both the North and South Islands of New Zealand. It inhabits native scrub and adults are on the wing in January and February. The placement of this species in the genus Trachypepla is regarded as unsatisfactory and in need of revision.
