He was the National Vice-Chairman, South-South Zone, of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He is the current APC gubernatorial candidate for the just concluded Edo gubernatorial election in Edo State. He lost to the incumbent governor, Obaseki.

Chief Humphrey Omo-Osagie was a Nigeria politician and Benin chief who held the title of Iyase of Benin. As Iyase, he was the prime minister in the court of the Oba of Benin, in addition, his strong support of Oba Akenzua II in the early 1950s created his alias B-2, or Benin authentic number 2, a mockery of Gaius Obaseki who was then Iyase. From 1963 to 1966, Omo-Osagie was influential in the administration of Dennis Osadebay, Premier of the Mid-Western region, he had a close relationship with Festus Okotie Eboh and his political group was influential in Benin division during the 1960s.

Edo South Senatorial District in Edo State covers seven local governments which include Oredo, Ovia South West, Egor, Ovia North East, Orhionmwon, Ikpoba Okha and Uhunmwode local government areas. Oredo LGA is the headquarters of Edo South. The current representative of Edo South is Mathew Uroghide of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

The 2020 Edo State gubernatorial election occurred on September 19, 2020. Incumbent PDP Governor Godwin Obaseki won re-election for a second term, defeating APC Osagie Ize-Iyamu and several minor party candidates. Obaseki received 57.3% of the vote.

The 2012 Edo State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on July 14, 2012. The ACN nominee Adams Oshiomhole won for a second term, defeating Charles Airhiavbere of the PDP.

The 2020 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held on 19 September 2020, in Edo State, and 10 October 2020, in Ondo State. The last regular gubernatorial elections for both states were in 2016. The All Progressives Congress' Rotimi Akeredolu was defending the Governor's office of Ondo while APC-turned-PDP Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki was defending his office. Both won reelection, leading to no net change in terms of overall party control of governorships.

The 2015 Nigerian Senate election in Edo State was held on March 28, 2015, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Edo State. Francis Alimikhena representing Edo North won on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, while Matthew Urhoghide representing Edo South and Clifford Ordia representing Edo Central won on the platform of the People's Democratic Party.

The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Edo State will be held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, will also be held on the same date while state elections will be held two weeks afterward on 11 March.
