Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) is a private institute of education in associate engineering in Lahore and Rawalpindi, Pakistan. IET had awarded engineering degree's from year 2000 to 2005 with collaboration of Allama Iqbal Open University. Now It offers diploma of associate engineering in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil technology.

History

Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in 2000, when it started its first program of Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunication in collaboration with Allama Iqbal Open University. [1] [2] It was the first private-sector institute in Pakistan to start a telecomm engineering program. It has branches in Islamabad/Rawalpindi and Lahore. It has run graduate programs in the areas of engineering, business administration and computer science in collaboration with Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) from 2000 to 2010. It is recognized by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) [3] [4] [5] and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. It has been recognized by Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority, Pakistan. AIOU stopped its engineering program in 2006 due to the non existence of AIOU charter to commence any engineering program, [6] but all of its batches from 2000 to 2005 which include 1311 students were given recognition by Pakistan Engineering Council. From 2005, it started associate engineering programs which are affiliated with "Punjab board of technical education".

With multiple campuses in Gujranwala, Jhelum, and Khanspur, the university was formally established by the British Government after convening the first meeting for establishing higher education institutions in October 1882 at Simla. Punjab University was the fourth university to be established by the British colonial authorities in the Indian subcontinent; the first three universities were established in other parts of British India. He served University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore as Vice Chancellor in December 2014. He was also appointed as Acting VC of Punjab Tianjin University of Technology (PTUT) in 2018 which is a joint cooperation program with Tianjin University of Technology and Education (TUTE), Tianjin Chengjian University (TCU) and Tianjin Polytechnic University (TPU). He is also Vice Chairman and Head of PEC Accreditation Board and Curriculum Committee for engineering programs. He had additional charge of Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUEIT) Rahim Yar Khan and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering & Technology Multan in 2015-2016. He served in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) for 21 years as Pro-Rector and Dean from 1994-2014.

E-Learning, or educational technology, in Pakistan has developed mostly in the 21st century. Online universities and e-learning platforms in the country have also opened in recent years. The introduction of 3G/4G technology has contributed to the growth in m-learning, allowing the incorporation of e-learning in classrooms as well as in informal education. Education in Pakistan is under the administration of Federal and provincial governments, allowing multiple e-learning opportunities for individuals in Pakistan.
