The Ireland men's cricket team toured Bangladesh in March and April 2023 to play one Test, three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. [1] [2]

Contents

This was the first-ever Test Match played between the two sides, [3] and the first multi-format series the two sides played at senior level. [4] The Test match was the fourth men's Test in Ireland's history, and their first since July 2019. [5]

The fixtures were confirmed by Cricket Ireland (CI) in January 2023. [6] Ahead of the ODI series, Ireland played a 50-over warm up match against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI (BCB XI) side. [7]

Bangladesh won the ODI series 2–0, [8] [9] with the second ODI finished in a no result due to rain, after the Bangladesh's innings. [10]

Bangladesh won the rain-affected first T20I by 22 runs. [11] They also went on to win the second match by 77 runs and take an unassailable lead in the series. [12] Ireland won the third T20I by 7 wickets, with Bangladesh winning the T20I series 2–1. [13]

Bangladesh won the one-off Test by 7 wickets. [14] This was Bangladesh's first Test win in home soil after three years. [15]

Former Zimbabwe wicket-keeper PJ Moor was included in Ireland's Test squad for the first time. [22] On 9 March 2023, Ireland's Fionn Hand was added to the Test squad, [23] replaced Josh Little in the ODI squad [24] and replaced Conor Olphert (unavailable due to study commitments) in the T20I squad. [25] On 11 March 2023, Ireland's Barry McCarthy was ruled out of the entire tour, [26] with Thomas Mayes named as his replacement. [27] On 16 March 2023, Zakir Hasan was ruled out of the ODI series due to a finger injury, with Rony Talukdar named as his replacement. [28] On 21 March 2023, both Afif Hossain and Shoriful Islam were released from the Bangladesh's squad for the third ODI. [29]

On 26 March 2023, Ireland's regular captain Andrew Balbirnie was rested from the T20I series, [30] with Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker were named captain, [31] and vice-captain respectively. [32] On 3 April 2023, Bangladesh's Taskin Ahmed was ruled out of the one-off Test match due to a side strain, [33] with Rejaur Rahman Raja named as his replacement. [34] On 10 April 2023, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury replaced Taskin Ahmed in the ODI series. [35]

The Bangladesh men's national cricket team, popularly known as The Tigers, is administered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) status. It played its first Test match in November 2000 against India with a 9 wicket win in Dhaka, becoming the tenth Test-playing nation. Khondaker Sakib Al-Hassan is a Bangladeshi cricketer and politician. He is the current captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team in all formats and a member of Parliament. He is known for his aggressive left-handed batting style in the middle order and controlled slow left-arm orthodox bowling. He is widely regarded as the greatest Bangladeshi cricketer and one of the greatest all rounders of all time.

Liton Kumar Das is a Bangladeshi cricketer and the current vice-captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team in all formats. He is a right-handed batter and a wicket-keeper. He made his international debut for Bangladesh in June 2015. He has scored the highest individual score for Bangladesh in ODI cricket (176).

The Bangladeshi cricket team toured New Zealand from December 2016 to January 2017 to play two Test matches, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20Is). New Zealand won both the ODI and T20I series 3–0 and won the Test series 2–0.

The Sri Lanka cricket team toured Bangladesh in January and February 2018 to play two Tests and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. Prior to the tour, both teams played in a tri-series, along with Zimbabwe.

The Bangladesh cricket team toured the West Indies and the United States between June and August 2018 to play two Tests, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The final two T20I matches took place at the Central Broward Regional Park, in Lauderhill, Florida. The second Test took place in Jamaica, fourteen years after Bangladesh last played a Test there. Bangladesh last toured the West Indies in September 2014.

The Bangladesh national cricket team toured Sri Lanka from March 2017 to April 2017. The tour consisted of a series of two Test matches, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Twenty20 internationals (T20Is). The second Test match of the tour was the 100th Test played by Bangladesh. The tour also featured a two-day warm-up match ahead of the Test fixtures and a one-day warm-up match ahead of the ODIs. The Test series was played for the Joy Bangla Cup in honour of the father of the Bangladesh nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2018 Nidahas Trophy</span> International cricket tournament

The 2018 Nidahas Trophy was a T20 cricket tournament that was held in Sri Lanka in March 2018. It was a tri-nation series between Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. Each team played each other twice, with two teams progressing to the final. The tournament was played to celebrate Sri Lanka's 70th year of independence; the title derives from the Sinhalese නිදහස් nidahas, meaning "freedom." Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the matches would be played as Twenty20 International fixtures. The fixtures and venue were announced in November 2017, with all the matches played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. This was the first occasion that Discovery Networks Asia Pacific channel DSport acquired media rights to broadcast live cricket matches involving the Indian cricket team.

The West Indies cricket team toured Bangladesh in November and December 2018 to play two Tests, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. It was the West Indies first full tour of Bangladesh since December 2012. The fixtures were confirmed in July 2018, with the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium scheduled to host its first ODI match. During the third ODI, it hosted its first ODI match.

The Bangladesh cricket team toured India to play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against the Afghanistan cricket team in Dehradun.

The Bangladesh cricket team toured India in November 2019 to play two Test and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The Test series formed part of the inaugural 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship. It was the second time that Bangladesh toured India to play a Test series, and the first time that Bangladesh played a T20I series against India in India. The Test series also featured the first day/night match to be played by either side.

The Zimbabwe cricket team toured Bangladesh in February and March 2020 to play one Test match, three One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. On 26 January 2020, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the itinerary for the tour. It was the first time that a tour between the two sides featured a one-off Test match. Zimbabwe last toured Bangladesh in October and November 2018, and last won a series in the country during their tour in November 2001. On 9 February, the BCB moved the three ODI matches from Chittagong to the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, to give the venue more exposure and international attention. The one-off Test match was the 100th international match to be played between the two sides.

The Pakistan cricket team toured Bangladesh in November and December 2021 to play two Test and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The Test series was part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship. The fixtures for the tour were confirmed in September 2021. Pakistan last toured Bangladesh in April and May 2015.

The original tour schedule was for two Test matches and three ODIs, but the Test matches were replaced by the T20I fixtures. All the matches took place at the Harare Sports Club. Prior to the series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named Nurul Hasan as their T20I captain for the tour, after Mahmudullah lacked performance and results. However, Nurul suffered a finger injury during the second T20I match and was ruled out of the rest of the tour. The BCB named Mosaddek Hossain as the team's captain for the third T20I match.

The Afghanistan cricket team toured Bangladesh in June and July 2023 to play one Test, three One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed this FTP tour in their press release.

The Bangladesh cricket team toured England in May 2023 to play three One Day International (ODI) matches against the Ireland cricket team. The ODI matches formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
