Jane Hedengren (born Sept 23, 2006) is an American track and field athlete specializing in middle and long-distance events. She has set multiple records and achieved significant milestones in high school competitions.

High School Career

Hedengren attends Timpview High School in Provo, Utah. She comes from a family with a strong running background. [1] Her father, John D. Hedengren was an All-American runner and her brother, Isaac Hedengren, [2] is a current member of the Men's Track and Field team for Brigham Young University (BYU). Hedengren has committed to continue her athletic and academic career at Brigham Young University. [3] Throughout her running career, Hedengren has demonstrated talent in both track and cross country events.

2023

In June 2023, as a sophomore, Hedengren won the girls' mile at the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle, Washington, setting a meet record and personal best with a time of 4:35.69. [4] Later that month, she competed at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon, winning the 2-mile title with a time of 9:54.38, breaking the U.S. sophomore class record. [5] In September 2023, as a junior, she ran the fastest three-mile ever by a high school girl in U.S. history, finishing in 15:32. [6]

2024

In May 2024, Hedengren set a new Utah state record in the 1600m with a time of 4:37.72 at the BYU Invitational. [7] In June 2024, she won the Nike Outdoor National 2 mile title in Eugene. In November 2024, she ran the fastest 5k ever recorded in high school girls cross country history, finishing in 15:50.01 at the Nike Cross Regionals Southwest. [8] In December 2024, she won the Nike Cross Nationals girls' championship race in Portland, Oregon, setting a new course record with a time of 16:32.7. [9] The previous course record of 16:37.8 was set in 2018 by Katelyn Tuohy of North Rockland HS in New York.

Awards and Recognition

In December 2024, following her record-breaking performance at the Nike Cross Nationals, Hedengren was named the USATF Athlete of the Week. [10]

Efraimson captured the bronze medal in the 1,500 meters at the 2013 World (U18) Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine.
